SEV a bit too easy? [ noob question ] |
Hi there..
I discovered SEV and played this amazing game since the last week, learning how to play.
When i realize the major mehcanics of the game, i decided to do a pair of campaigns, and enjoy the game.
In both campaigns, i have experienced no difficoulties, and none events that wipe my empire.
'Cuse the most important thing in the game, is the research, the fist thing i will do, is to research liv 5 of applied research, and constructing enough research center to have 20.000 points of research ASAP.
Then i have no enemyes that can challenge me O_ò
Im my campaign, im at 2416.5 turn, and i have something like 50.000 research points, so i can have all that i want. I have only 2 CV [ carriers] and each one is escort by 2 CLAA [ cruiser with PD weapons ] carring something like 30-35 fighters [ and the cargo carry points, isnt full ]. Then i have only 2 fleet with 1 Cruise, 2 CL, 2 DD.
Why a so small fleet?
'Cuz i have only three system on my own, only 2 major colonies, and like ten minor colonies
And with those forces, i can destroy all sistem, if i want O_ò.. i try an incursion in an enemy system, and i have erased all colonyes without difficoulties, so i passed at the 2nd enemy system, and the story repeat. Doomed system by my carrier and fighters, and the same event was for the 3rd system
then i stop myself, 'cause i dont wanna win so easily
And im playing with AI Difficoulty set to Hard.
So i tryed to be in war with the 3 major empires, in the meanwhile i've reached lvl 20 of planet utilization [ so i not power myself in weapon and ship tech], and no problems werent for my CV and Fighters Lv 3 during all the time
They send me only colony ship for take my planet in my system, and then some fleets with 12 cruisers, or CL, and always they are PWNED by my poor fighter..
Boring..
And now im researching chemical weapons, cloaked units, and some of the most powerfull tech in the game... how can the AI challenge me then?
Any suggest to make my games more challenging? Any Mod that can make me enjoy?

As far as I can tell, there is not a problem with the Unnamed Mod, but a problem or two with Stock game engine. Unfortunately, the Unnamed's AI may tend to hit these problems more often than stock (Unnamed AIs use more intel and such). Really wish this was an open source project right now so I could track the problem down myself, but we work with what we have. Otherwise, Blubel hit the nail on the head.

Playing against stock AI is like playing against someone who's in a coma, either get an AI mod or the BalanceMod and start a new game with AI difficulty - Hard and AI Bonus - Medium or above.

the stock AI is not realy able to challenge a human player. Furthermore, fighters are overpowered in stock...
You defenitly want to try out a mod. The wiki: http://wiki.spaceempires.net/index.php/Space_Empires_V tells you most of them.
In my opinion, the best mods which make the AI better, are Balance Mod (BM)(which alters the tech tree and makes everything more balanced...) : http://www.captainkwok.net/balancemod.php
and unnameds AI mod, which is stock with new AI files (I think there are some intelligence problems with the mod while useing SEV 1.66 at the moment - but I'm not sure, so you should better check it out) : http://wiki.spaceempires.net/index.php/Unnamed%27s_Stock_AI_mod
Furthermore tries GidMod to make all AI empires different and does a great job with it.
I'm not sure about the last release of GidMod, but atleast BM and unnameds mod make the AI a lot better. You still want them on high difficulty and with some bonus. To make them even more challaging, you can give research points at the start of the game and don't use them as player. Also you can activate Team Mode, so that all AI empires are hostily towards the player. But then, you probably want to disable inteligence use, or you may get crushed by their spies.
But the best games in such a complex game as SEV you will get by playing against humans. This realy makes a lot more fun then any game against the AI. To do this, you should get an account (it's free) here: http://seiv.pbw.cc
