DX 10 graphics cards |
I just got a Radeon 3870 and it runs SE5, but objects flicker in and out making it difficult to play for a long time. I've adjusted everything in the graphics options that would help and there is no change. Is anyone having the same problems, and better yet does anyone have an idea on how to fix them?
Re: DX 10 graphics cards
SE:5 got some pretty intense graphik problems if your resolution exceeds 1024 x 768
okay pretty intense is overstated but yeah ... it doesn't like it.
Another tip I read from Cpt. Kwok was to turn of some text-graphik feature of vista
( I can't recall the name right now for I still use XP and will not switch to vista any time soon,
and I can't find the related thread )

Re: DX 10 graphics cards
I thought it might have something to do with Vista, but I was briefly running Vista on my old rig (nVidia 7600 GT) as I was putting this new one together, and it ran SE V fine. Must be the combination of Catalyst drivers and Vista. Do you know which features need to be disabled?

Re: DX 10 graphics cards
Turning off "Smooth Edges of Screen Fonts" is the only XP/Vista effect I've found that impacts SE5's FPS rate.

Re: DX 10 graphics cards
ok i am using XP too together with a DX 10 capable graphic card (ATI Radeon 3850). Apparently the flickering occurs only with texture overlays as used for floating text, nebulars, sun halo, units in combat simulations and all weapon effects.
I also tried anything regarding configuration (all options different drivers and/or resolution). Nothing helped.
But in the end i get the impression that the texture management of the card or the emulation of DX 9 functionality is the reason. Since sometimes i can see other parts of the memory in the game (for example parts of the loaded Icons_Mail.bmp while in System view). So i fear all we can do is waiting and hoping Malfador can fix this problem ... T_T
Re: DX 10 graphics cards
I rather think its ATIs problem then, not Malfadors ..
since your card should run in DX9 mode afaik, because DX10 isn't really supported under xp

Re: DX 10 graphics cards
Graphics hardware can drive programmers up a wall too. Hard to plan for every possible configuration that's out there.

Re: DX 10 graphics cards
Yes Juju is right. Problem solved by simply updating my drivers.
Dame some times i am to stupid to cord up my own shoes. *shakes head*
