Mines Not Exploding When Enemy Ships enter the sector |
Hey Everyone,
I've noticed that sometimes mines dont detonate when enemy ships enter the same sector. Instead it goes to regular combat. Anyone experienced this? Anyone know why? Does it have something to do with whether the enemy saw them with sensors before entering the sector? Any information would be helpful. Thanks

To my knowledge, mines in combat are placed ridiculously high on the z-plane, hence aren't 'visible' in ordinary views of tactical combat. It may not be possible to get 'near' them to blow up.

Re: Mines Not Exploding When Enemy Ships enter the sector
That's not how it works. The reason you can't see them is because of the Hidden in Combat ability in VehicleUnitTypes.txt. I can 100% guarantee that they definately do blow up in combat if you run over them. Try it for yourself in a combat sim - have a mine layer with some mines in cargo being pursued by a combat ship. If the combat ship follows directly behind the minelayer it will hit the mines and go boom.
Re: Mines Not Exploding When Enemy Ships enter the sector
I have not hit any A.I. mines in my game yet, but they have hit my mines , i'm playing unnamed mod latest version without FQM. Is it posssible for a cloaked ship to go through a mine field un hindered if the cloak is higer tech then the mine detection tech lvl?Just curious, but as far as the A.I. empires are concerned i have not seen any of their mines so far nor encountered any.

Re: Mines Not Exploding When Enemy Ships enter the sector
Unless something has changed, cloaked ships cannot get past mine fields, regardless of sensor or cloak levels. In fact, mines are a very good defense against cloaked ships if you don't have high level sensors everywhere for that reason.
I've never encountered combat due to minefields, either from triggering a field, or from having one of my fields triggered, but I don't use mines very often.

Thanx reaper, for clearing that up for me. I didn't think they could but was un sure. I'm sure Unnamed will get on it and take care of it, between him and all the other excellent modders out there, surely someone will fix it. Well good hunting and kill well.

Ok, will do, and thnx.
Re: Mines Not Exploding When Enemy Ships enter the sector
Ok, its been a little bit since my last post here, just wanted to play the update a bit to see how its working and it seems to be ok so far. I've encountered many minefields by the A.I., and have taken casualties from them, so it appears to work fine now. nice work.
Re: Mines Not Exploding When Enemy Ships enter the sector
I've noticed that when I sweep mines I still have unexploded mines in an area with my ships. I would think that if my sweep capacity is exceeded then the remainder should explode. (and this is in stock SE)

Re: Mines Not Exploding When Enemy Ships enter the sector
Is this with your AI mod, and are there more mines than can be successfully swept? I just noticed that your AI builds mines with no warheads and consequently they do no damage. If there's more than can be swept, then the excess enter into combat. Try flying the ships around the map and see if there is the occasional unexplained explosion.
