Mod Question about shipsets

Soumis par Isdahl le Ven, 2007-12-07 21:15 Space Empires V General

Not sure if this is the place for this, if not, i apologize. I put in some new shipsets in my game and they look great, and i noticed in my last campaign 2 of the races were in the game as comp players. Funny thing was it was like they did not exist. They absolutely did nothin thru out the game so i eliminated them.

So i was wondering, since they are just shipsets, does this mean i have to create, in the add race column when i'm in game set up screen, the race then save as comp player for them to work in game?

I noticed in some of the files of the shipsets i downloaded, they had race traits and A.I documents with them already, does that mean they will play as an A.I. race, with out help? Or do i have to move some of these files around?

I guess what i'm asking is, i downloaded the rar's the way it said, was curious if i did something wrong or needed to add them as a race?

Its possible the shipset(s) has old, broken AI scripts (the .csf files). If you replace them with AI from a stock 1.63 race, you should be ok..

So why haven't the authors of the old custom empires / shipsets updated them for the 1.63 patch? They've had plenty of time to do that by now.

I'm sure this has been answered before, but I'm new here, so please cut me some slack Eye-wink

I'm having trouble getting Shipsets and Empires to work, especially when using things like the Balance Mod.

I have downloaded several and extracted them, then placed the folder for each new shipset / empire (Examples include the BSG Colonials and Cylons) in the Empires folder. I have gone through and added some in using the guide from the read me. Now I can create new empires, but how do I add in a pre-created empire as an AI player, ie: if I want to play as the Colonials, and have the Cylons as one of the enemies. Do I have to manually create a new Cylon empire also?

Thanks!

Yes.

Or, you can start a new game with lots of players and the settings you prefer, then turn the empires you wish to save to file to human control. End turn until you get to them, then use the save empire to file option (its in the main options menu). Now when you make a new game, you can load the empire from file. Note that you will need to use the same settings for tech points and racial points, since empires loaded from file do not read from the AI scripts for starting techs or racial traits (the selections are saved in the .emp file).

That's an assumption and considering the author's time spent on the set there shouldn't be any 'obligation' to update it. Kind enough that the author did all the work on the models themselves to worry about two files that can easily be copied over.
