System/Space Combat Effects?

Hey All-
Big Fan of the SE series! Like it so much because you can mod/tweak the heck out of it to make more what you want. I like to think I'm getting good at tweaking. That being said, I seem to be stuck in a quantum loop....

In SEIV I had modded a shield nullifier- that is, the component on a ship nullified shields in a battle up to a given number of points depending on level 1 -4 ie: 1200 negative shield points applied to all ships in battle. A lot of fun was had when the AI stormed a fleet or 2 at me, and I had a Shield Negator ship sitting in the middle of my heavily armored fleet....made capturing ships fun too Eye-wink

As for SEV I see the abilities that storms use, so I imagine it could be done in battle. I have the component added to the components.txt, no prob but I can't seem to get it to apply the effect during a battle though.... I'd imagine it can be done since storms do this.

Any ideas? I'd really love this, or a way to prevent ships from fleeing (a-la an Interdictor Cruiser from Star Wars...)

Can you post the full component? Are you using 1.63? Shield Disruption ability was non-functional prior to 1.63.

Hi Fyron-
I can post a bit later (still at work)--- gimme ~ 3 hours or so.
That being said I'm using 1.63 and a tweaked game type where I make my changes (A mix of FQM-- awesome btw..., Unnamed's AI mod and many tweaks of my own)

The component itself was a copy and paste of the shield generator with the 'ability 1' replaced with the ability I found in SystemAbilities.txt that was shield disruption. I chose the pic and everything works fine to add it to a ship. It just doesn't generate the negative effects across a sector, or at all!

It adds to ships fine but the shielding reducing effect in the combat simulator doesn't happen. Not sure if I build one on a ship and send it to a 'real' sector if the effect would work....

Any ideas?

Guess what?!!
I decided to try to add a component or 2 to a ship and send it out as a field test.
Turns out, it DOES work in a real battle. it just does not work in simulation for some odd reason.

I'd imagine this would bring up all sorts of interesting things to mod....one could even do it on a planetary level to 'cancel' oncoming ship shields.

Question now is if 'Loss of Control' works against AI....

Yep- but as long as you put more shields on than the reducers reduce, you'll have some to defend with. I also add as much armor as I can fit.

I use them on cloaked boarding ships- great to to pop out next to an enemy ship and be able to board without the need to bring down the shields first.
