Playing SEV one-on-one... |
...can be a real kick in the pants. Pace can be much quicker than a larger game, especially in the early-mid portions. Less of the map is subject to early colonization competition, which allows a little more freedom in creating a base set of colonies and systems around which to create your empire. Also, there's no ambiguity about how you should relate to your opponent when contact is made. Win or lose, a 2 player game can be great fun. Plus, it serves as a pretty darn good way to learn the game the best way: by matching wits against a human opponent at a reasonably quick pace.
This is my little advertisement and encouragement intended to ask folks to join Takahlah's "Emperor Of The Universe" league.
At present, there are 9 players on the ladder (or whatever it should be called). Come on, folks...more than that many teams will make the NFL playoffs, for Pete's sake, and we all know that there are a fair number of online SEV players out there. Get signed up, get into a match, and let's turn EOTU into the place where folks come when they want to dive into the wonderful world of SEV multiplayer gaming.

Note: no disrespect is intended or implied toward larger multiplayer SEV games. They're great fun also, I play them, I enjoy them immensely, and I fully recognize that they bring an aspect to the table that a 2 player game does not.
(Tak did not ask me to post this.)

Re: Playing SEV one-on-one...
I'd participate, but I barely have the time to play the sole multiplayer game I'm in... Maybe when we finish it!
