Who deleted the exploit post? |

All right, who deleted the exploit post??? I was just about to congratulate the original poster for doing the right thing (along with a short rant against "security by obscurity" as Romulus68 proposed) but in the meantime the thread got deleted... WTF?!? Now only an elite few (those lucky enough to have read the post) can take advantage of the exploit, and if anyone in that group happens to feel like taking advantage of the exploit, no one will be the wiser!
Simply out of fear of being banned as a troll (though I doubt that would happen, the possibility is real), I won't describe the exploit in any great detail - however, I will say this: don't make gifts to or even trades with people you don't trust as honest players!

Re: Who deleted the exploit post?
If the exploit was reported to the proper chanels it will be handled. No need to educate the criminal element on how to cheat.
Groovy Baby Yeah!

Re: Who deleted the exploit post?
It's not undetectable or anything - it should produce additional log entries for the parties involved.
Re: Who deleted the exploit post?
I'm sorry this seems to have caused offence. I originally reported this as I thought this forum had the ear of the developers. Other people report bugs/exploits on here daily, and their issues are dealt with in patches, so thought if it wasn't known it'd be picked up in a future patch and resolved.
There was no malice intended, or a desire to ruin people’s games. In fact, as Ekolis states, this should help people as the game doesn’t make it clear an offence has happened. If the victim doesn’t study his messages carefully after each turn he'd be unaware something dodgy has happened. My suggested workaround would have prevented this, as people CAN take active steps to prevent this.
I also think this should be made aware to everyone. That way it can be stated in the PBW games rules before the match and if someone does cheat the games administrator can take immediate action. Knowing about it will mean people can no longer use the argument “oh, I didn’t know about that, lOL”. If its in black and white at the start there is no excuse and violations will be frowned upon.
I’m in contact with the forum admin, who kindly emailed me after my post was removed. I’m asking that he forwards my discovery to Malfador direct, as I think its best it comes from an veteran member of the community, rather than a newbie.
Re: Who deleted the exploit post?
Well, the right forums would have been "Bug Reports" anyway... because:
"Discuss general bug reports within this forum. Official reports should be entered in the "Projects" section (left menu)."
If you enter the bug in the bug section, an email with your issue is automatically generated and sent to MM. Although nobody here seems to care to mark bugs as fixed...

Corestandeven:
No offense taken. However, posting an exploit will not prevent it from be utilized. It will make more people aware of it and thus it will be more likely used. Not everyone reads the boards. The fact that the original thread was deleted should make this clear. The proper way would be report it directly.
Groovy Baby Yeah!
Re: Who deleted the exploit post?
What?!? A moderator actually deleted a thread here? Is that a first?
If I didn't occaisionally see an off-topic thread moved, I wouldn't know this forum /had/ moderators.
"Good morning, Pooh Bear," said Eeyore gloomily. "If it /is/ a good morning," he said. "Which I doubt," said he.

Re: Who deleted the exploit post?
Hello,
Given the amount of data and posts that flow through here on a regular basis, active moderating is not a very realistic expectation. Thusly, we have enabled a flag module that can be used for both posts and comments.
If you feel a post/comment requires our attention, then you can use the flag to report it to us and we'll tend to it accordingly.
Cheers,
SysOp
Re: Who deleted the exploit post?
SysOp's, did you pass this particular exploit on to MM?

Re: Who deleted the exploit post?
I did when it was posted. Unfortunately it'll have to wait until the next patch, which might be a bit away. However, note that additional log entries are generated and so it is quite detectable where it would be the biggest concern, ie PBW games. If you're playing the AI and can restrict yourself from using this exploit, then it's a shame.

Re: Who deleted the exploit post?
Deciding the extent to which you publicize an exploit you discover is always dicey even if it's "just a piece of software".
In many cases, you can post telltale signs of the exploit without explaining how to perform it.

Re: Who deleted the exploit post?
mmmmhmmm. then only the smart people can take advantage of it
if Aaron is fixing it, then it doesn't matter if people know about it. and in fact i agree that the fewer that do the better.
i'd say keep posting exploits and bugs, but don't get upset if they delete it.
Ops already stated that these things get forwarded to Aaron.
Re: Who deleted the exploit post?
Imo freshly discovered exploit should be reported to support ONLY. But once you are positive its used (so cheaters know about this and fair players don't) it should be published (if possible how to notice it, but in such phase how to do it does not make things worse, becose cheaters already knows).

Re: Who deleted the exploit post?
I don't want people to be Tempted in PBW games and ruin the experience for the honest players (or uninformed).
