Migration? |
What, if any, are the benefits to allowing migration with another empire? All I can see is that it will make all of your colonies domed (unless the other race breathes the same atmosphere). Also, if you capture a planet populated by another race, does migration start automatically?

Only disadvantages i see are roleplaying:
1) you cannot stop migration, so if you capture planet with same breatehers as your race, keeping your planet pure of that scum without exterminating is impossible (and you want to use them as slave labor).
2) if you have some oxygen breathers on methane ploanet and want it convert to oxygen, and you have some methan breathers, they will move there and be majority, so convertor will convert to methan (dos not change anything). But if you does notneed your reproduction bonus on your own people, then just spacing your pop makes this planet undomed anyway.
(Sometimes i did: use other race to build facilities including at. convertor and then spaced them (in whole empire, only few in transports) and replaced with my people. But thats counter productive from purely gaming point of view)

Is migration a bit broken at the moment?
I have a treaty with another empire that does not include migration as one of the elements, yet I am getting some of their race on my planets. I assume they are also getting my race migrating to their empire...it is a multiplayer game so I cannot check.
The treaty elements we have are the following:
Non-agression in neutral space.
Trade 20 percent
I do not have migration treaties with any other empires...this game is 1.58 + 1.11 BM. Any ideas?

Populations only migrate to planets they can breathe on. So in fact, it does the opposite of what you thought - it allows you to un-dome planets rather easily but removing the non-breathing population.
