Population constantly unhappy?

Soumis par davehodge le Jeu, 2006-10-12 06:45 Space Empires V General

Hey all.

I've been playing the SE series since III, anyway, and I just got the SE V box and dove right in.

This is a problem I've had every time I've started a new game. After about 20 turns or so, all my population is at least angry and on some worlds, rioting. I end up with zero research, zero production and hence no way to fix it, since the problem is empire-wide.

Is this a gameplay feature of the new game, i.e. something I'm missing, or a bug of some sort?

Thanks any who reply.

-Dave

Same Here before modding

SE IV allowed you to choose a happiness mode, (agressive, denfensive, neutral) but SEV I fail to see the option anywhere so I modded them all to be the same. I didn't know which they were using and some say everytime you construct a ship is a bad event so... I also modded a happiness trait just so maybe that is why my guys are staying jubilant for the most part... I scrapped my first game because with no bad events happening most of my colonies started rioting. Because I was producing too many ships???

Demo bug maybe, 1.0 maybe a feature?

Soumis par Iron Giant le Jeu, 2006-10-12 08:38

Started a 1.0 game last night. Took Republic as my government.

I'm a few years into the game, and some planets started rioting. Took a look at all my planets and no one is happy!

Its possible that this is somewhat by design. The description of Republic says -2% happiness. Maybe this means every turn? So you would have to do something to offset this -2% each and every turn? That would mean researching Troops and/or happiness centers pretty quick in the game.

I don't think so

Soumis par phalzyr le Jeu, 2006-10-12 08:44

No that isn't it, First game I modded me a new trait that gave me +5% happiness, and a government that had no ill happiness effect. the one that actually has no + or - to it. Next game I'll try with just the happiness.txt edit and see if the get angry or not. I also changed my trait to be +100% happiness now so I could just play a game and see what else needed changed, without me having to worry about happiness.

In the Demo, Happiness

Soumis par StarHunter5 le Jeu, 2006-10-12 09:05

In the Demo, Happiness is reversed. A minus value improves it and a positive value seems to upset the population.
They already know about this (atleast in the demo), hopefully they will fix this in the patch.

Hapiness in full version also backwards.

It is the same in v1.0 I changed it to a -50 for the hapiness trait and everyone is jubulant.

You'll be pleased to hear

Soumis par matryx le Jeu, 2006-10-12 11:17

You'll be pleased to hear this has been sorted out for the first patch. No doubt, as soon as the game is actually released (naughty EB games!) then the patch will also be available.

That would explain why i've

Soumis par LordHavoc le Jeu, 2006-10-12 11:25

That would explain why i've never had this problem. I've usually picked the governments with improved research, they usually have -%happyness associated with them.

???

Soumis par phalzyr le Jeu, 2006-10-12 11:33

Is that bug only with government type or all things? Then would my +100% make my people unhappy quickly, and the change to the happiness.txt file I made offsetting it enough? I could of swore in demo I saw a place to choose happines type (peaceful, neutral etc) but in retail I can't seem to find that option on my empire.

Moral Dilemmas

Soumis par AngleWyrm le Jeu, 2006-10-12 12:40

Looks like "happiness" and "anger" were both used as labels for morale. Might be easiest to use happiness, so that +values are a good thing and -values are bad thing.
