Anti AI tactic that feel like cheating

Soumis par Alpedar le Jeu, 2007-11-08 10:08 Space Empires V General

Esp. in BM (where ship capture comes earlier and AI is more active)
Early game, research ship capture technology and put "theif" class frigate on warppoints to your systems (+ some defense). Later add something to down shields/slow down target ship.

If there are planets colonizable by AI, they will eventualy send colonizers. So you can gain different breathers/colony techs. One colony tech pays research into ship capture.

If there are asteroids, AI will send remote miners.

(+ you will probubly capture frigates and freighters too, so you will get other techs too).

Only way i managed to stop AI from suiciding civilian ships was to colonize all planets + convert&colonize asteroids.

Are you noticing if the AI Colony or Resource ships are trying to ram your ships?

Btw. Storry behind this is, that my United Earth Empire met in its home system Terran Confederation (UEE was not so united Eye-wink ). TC were reunited with UEE and first scout ships were sent to peacefully exploit (eh. explore) universe. But they met Enemy Life Forms (Elf Eye-wink ) more advanced. And becose UEE had superb troops (becose of they were needed during reuniting TC), decison was made to use them on ships too. During colonization of suposedly empty planet ruins was found (although noone noticed them during survey) and UEE got new toy. Power leach weapon.

But becose Elf's already used some sort of energy to protect their ships, heroic researchers of UEE had to found some remedy. After heroic battle aginst some ELF ships (turned to be freighters), shield technology was obtained. And from this was found its weakness. Shield depleters.

Ring of shield depleater and power leach satelites were placed on WPs, so marines had their job easier. (Its hard to capture ship flying faster than your assault boat).

Yeah. I lost few ships to them.
And i lol-ed when my colony ship colonized planet they were trying to colonize, so enemy colonizer came to freshly colonized planet. AND RAMMED IT.

Imo they should not ram planets. Its bit futile.

No, just dedication to completing there task Smiling

Was that in the same turn or on a subsequent turn that the colonizer rammed the planet?

I lost a new colony when an AI colony ship rammed the planet.

I was wondering how the AI would respond to a colonized world, if its the same turn then it didn't get a chance to evaluate the situation that evolved (your colonized world) and kept on going to colonize its intended target.

It happened again.
I beat it to that planet by halfturn. I colonized and it rammed and killed my planet. And in combat report, it said my planet dead, enemy colonyship unharmed. Strange.

I loaded, sent there nearby scoutship (1 DU, but with 25 supplies left, so i didn;t dared to fire).
Instead of raming planet, it tried to ram my ship which ran. Next turn, my ship had plenty supplies from colony, so there ends daredevil colonyship.

Imo Kwok should change their strat to strategy that rams only ships (maybe planets). But definitely not fighters (they can easily dodge) or drones.

And another strange things: Crew/Life supports is autoplaced into outer hull. Is not better to place it in inner (or et least some of it)?

Why use only one Emissive armor? In BM i don't see reason except cost to use normal armor. And becose armor protects much more expensive parts, few resources more are imo bargain.
(This alone could make AI bit more dangerous)

There's no way to differentiate ramming ships from another vehicle type...

With the switch to smaller CQ/LS, inner slots on some ship sets are too few in number, so I had to randomize their placement between inner and outer slots. Since CQ/LS are added prior to most other components, there's not really any way to know if their will be inner slots available after some of the specialty components are added. However, I do have some revisions planned to make sure small ships always have at least one of each placed on inner slots.

There's been a couple recent bugs with emissive armor stacking when it shouldn't, but a 50-50 mix is usually sufficient. I'm currently make a few revisions to how armor is added, so you'll see a bit more of the emissive armor in future versions.

Imo Emisive armor currently (even without stacking) is too good (no performance drawbacks compared to normal armor, only cost).
I think, that better would be increase its blocking strength, but reduce its structure. This way it would be much better aginst numerous weak attacks and much worse aginst strong ones.
(Of course after it stopped stacking)
