Sigh.. full version has same bugs, crashes, lockups as Demo did |
well, I was hoping the full version would be smoother. I manage to get 5-10 turns at a time without afatal exception or crash.. so if I run a save every turn option I am ok.. just relaod from last save.
But when the game glitches.. even the save games become worthless.
so now I have 5 different games saved.. none playable. So after my $42.. I have a new game, much anticipated, that is essentially unplayable. I dont gripe much if a demo is buggy.. but a fully released game that cost real money should at least be playable.
must say I am very dissapointed after the excitement of getting it, and now slowly coming to the realization, that an hour or so is about all I can actually play in any single game without crashing.
New Demo?
When does the New Demo come out?

Version 1.0
Both demo and retail are version 1.0, the "went gold" version. Patch should be out for retail on the 16th, everyone says

Not good
If the retail version is in the same shape as the Demo, SEV is not going to get many good reviews. What should be a 8-9 (out of 10) is in reality a 3-4 (out of 10) with all the bugs. Most sites only review the shipping copy, not the patched copy. I refuse to pay for the demo, it just does not work well. If I buy the game now, it is simply reinforcing the mindset of releasing games early.
Reviews
SEIV got great reviews from the game mags and sites and it was in poor shape at release as well, just look at the version number for gosh sakes.

They should have released a
They should have released a beta patch to help those that got the game early. The game should not have been released in this state.Typical StrategyFirst.
EB Games Jumped the Gun
The official release date is the 16th of October which is when the patch is coming out but EB Games is selling SEV as soon as they get in to the store, Instead of holding them until the release date. The game is really buggy because Strategy First must of thought they would have a patch to fix most of the bugs by the official release date. So don’t blame Strategy First blame EB Games.
Most of what I just said is speculation so please don’t take that it is written in stone.

Your pain will be legendary even in Hell!
Except
Except for needing the patch at all. You can blame EB for the patch not being ready on the "early" release date, but everything else falls right back on MM and SFI.
Personally I don't mind the game being released as is, since I've not had *too* many problems with it and I'm confident MM will recitfy the problems, but others may not agree..

One upon a time gold ment
One upon a time gold ment finished and playable, patches were for balance and added features.
Once upon a time when?
Because even NES games occasionally had game-breaking bugs, and that was in the 80s.

Well...
... I bought mine from a retailer other than EB games yesterday.
Anyways, I'm actually having a more difficult time playing the real deal as opposed to the Demo.

I so totally agree. While
I so totally agree. While this may just signify I'm really getting old in gamer terms, I get the impression that today flogging unfinished games is rather becoming the norm than the exception. So PLEASE MM & SFI, don't ever think about making cars as a new business

Actually...
They would be better at making cars: They are less complicated.

Cars...
Cars also don't have to deal with portability across 100,000,000 different hardware setups.

This game is completely unplayable
I cant even complete one turn in game without crashing, In fact most of the time I dont even get past the Game creation screen to even get to my first turn before it crashes..
I havent seen such a total piece of crap since I dont even know when... (Probably never)
Eh maybe I can play the space empires IV that came with it.. that should at least be playable...

What errors are you getting?
What's the errors you are getting? Are you running a dual-core system?

Crashes
I haven't found an error that is unrecoverable yet, but one really annoying one.
While saving the game I will, for long stretches at a time, I will get a range error that will crash the game. When I restart the game, I find that the games WAS saved and I can move along, and when I save again, it will crash again with the same error. After a while it seems to tire of this and stops crashing for a while then starts the process over again.
The only error I get at galaxy creation is a datafile error on the ai, no game crash, just no real expansion by the comp players.
Oh yeah, forgot this one.
In my game setup I use 5000 pts for player racial traits, but when I go to start a new game with the same setup, it tells me that my saved empire has too many racial points.
Just a reminder: If you have
Just a reminder:
If you have game crashes or game killing bugs, please send the savegame with a detailed description of the bug or how the game crashes to MM. Include the version of your SE V and in the case of crashes your computer configuration.
Racial Points
This bug has already been reported. You can work around the issue by either saving your game setup and then loading it next time or going to add a new empire and then canceling and then loading your old empire.
More details can be seen in my bug report post http://www.spaceempires5.com/en-US/node/368

Minor problems with Demo
I played the demo, and experience few problems. Nothing REALLY fatal to my game, but experience several crashes, in which I had to reload a saved game. I made it to the 100-turn limit in 3 games without serious problems. It might be hardware problems, as I experience different issues on my different computers.
