Riots tearing apart my empire - how to stop? |
Hey fellow emperors,
I was being an evil bastard, quickly reaching a much higher tech level than my AI opponents and using my knowledge to isolate their systems from the rest of the galaxy by closing their warp points, hehehe.
When I did this to a couple of enemy systems I proceeded to close all warp points connecting my enemies to my systems. Relatively quickly I was able to separate my star systems from the rest. That way I could work on building toward ring- and sphereworlds without being disturbed by enemy intelligence and attacks. However...
This is when the fun ended for me. Without apparent reason, one after another my planets started rioting! All of them used to be jubilant but quickly happiness degraded to the point where basically all my planets were rioting. This led to a great fall in resources, which led to the abandonment and destruction of my fleet. I have no idea why this happened but I'm not about to give up a 250+ turn game. I have a savegame from just before all this started happening. Is there something I can do to turn the tide? I'm even willing to edit data files, I just want to get on with my game
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Riots tearing apart my empire - how to stop?
Make sure you have lots of troops on your planets. The Tyranny government type has a happiness penalty that drops happiness quickly unless you're winning wars or have lots of ships or troops in your systems.

Happiness.txt
Take a look at the Happiness.txt file in the data folder or in your mod. There you can see which events changes the mood of your people. Compare it with your recent events and you should figure out what is causing your people's headache.
If you want to mod something change the point troops on planet.
Our Troops on Planet := -0.2 -> -15.0
Arround 20 cheap troops stationed at every planet, will keep all your rebells calm

Re: Riots tearing apart my empire - how to stop?
I had a similar problem when I lost all treaties (because of my mega evil status) the AI players started declaring war against me for one turn then making peace with me the next. This caused the war happiness penalty to repeatedly being applied turn after turn. The only fix was to edit the happiness txt war penalty to 0.
Remember! If someone is trying to kill you, you kill them first!

And on a completely different subject:
Althumbs: Both your pic and your quote rock.
"Only by being constantly at war with evil in all things, including yourself, can you truely know peace."

Re: Riots tearing apart my empire - how to stop?
Build an Urban Pacification Centre in every system.

Re: Riots tearing apart my empire - how to stop?
Rather than stating the solution, I think I'll point out what is likely the problem - tyrannys have a happy penalty, and the most common way it's offset is by winning wars, as previously noted.
You then cut off your systems from everyone else, and stopped winning wars. The happiness penalty would start to chip away pretty quickly, there... At least, that'd be my first guess.

Re: Riots tearing apart my empire - how to stop?
They got bored dude.
Re: Riots tearing apart my empire - how to stop?
Is it per turn change penalty, or constant modifier? Becose if its per turn change, then i will weight it much more in my future games. (And same for those -+500 points un/happynes traits).
Re: Riots tearing apart my empire - how to stop?
Imo they only send colony ship

those annoying AI's won't know what hit 'em when I start my invasion hehehe!
Re: Riots tearing apart my empire - how to stop?
Did you have treaties before you cut yourself off? Maybe not heaving treatis causes unhapiness.
