Can you make Suns colonizable? |

Just wondering if you could have the stars/suns be colonized?
Basically I'm looking for a place to have 'Monster' race where it can generate 'ships' but not have to colonize the main planet types. This would also solve some other scripting ideas where I need several 'neutral' or 'monster' empire/races that only really effect the game via the ships/monsters they produce and not really the infrastructure that would be on the sun's surface.
I plan on scripting conditions that when all the main empires are defeated (one remaining empire type X say) that the monster empire automatically surrenders so there is an actual end game possible.
Like I said lots of possible solutions if this is even a workable idea.
Would also give you another reason to blow stars up, just to rid yourself of the monsters
Re: Can you make Suns colonizable?
Suns cannot be both stars and planets. Only planet objects can be colonizable. You can create a new planet type that is placed only around stars though. Might need to set all normal planets to a predesignated type (like in FQM, save moons), else the "sun" planet types might appear in regular planet spots.
A while back, I was milling over the idea of making a "habitats" mod that would implement a bunch of different types of mutually-exclusive colonization, such as sun dwellers and distinct gas giant races that can't colonize rock/ice worlds, and vice versa. Would be pretty nifty, but requires a lot of new artwork and models...
Re: Can you make Suns colonizable?
Actually Fyron there IS another way. My asteroid experiment has demonstrated that a new physical type of planet(not atmosphere), will not spawn unless added to the table at the beginning of the universe definition file. I don't remember exactly what it looks like but it's something like:
Gas = 33
Ice = 33
Rock = 34
If you want a planet type to spawn at random this must be changed. but there's another catch. Spawning an empire will give it planets of whatever type it lives on regardless of how/where that type is set up by you to spawn.

Re: Can you make Suns colonizable?
If its a monster race then why would be able to colonize? In such case couldn't you simply setup monster races to be unable to colonize? Otherwise It would seem you would need to add that extra planet type...I just realized...why the heck do we refer to earth as a oxygen world. Nitrogen makes up the vast majority of gases on our world...

Re: Can you make Suns colonizable?
That sounds really cool, one thing comes to mind at the moment, I haven't really thought this through yet. What would happen to Ring/Sphere Worlds? I know your idea may not even be possible but if it is, would you have to not allow Ring Worlds around colonized stars? Dunno, just a few thoughts. Sounds really good if possible though.
Colonizable Suns really got my attention.
