Can anyone point me in the direction of information on how to create custom shipsets?

I think what you really want to ask is how to create shipsets that work with v1.58. It seems that none of the custom shipsets work with this latest patch.

Damn it, I suppose thats what we get for screaming for a public release before it was ready.

Ok, I'll rephrase, how might I go about creating shipsets that work with 1.44.

In perticular im intrested in what format the the models themselves are, as I can work out most of the structure from other custom shipsets ive downloaded.

The models appear to be in an '.x' format, which isnt familar to me.

I started a 1.58 game and had no problem with custom shipsets of course they don't have AI's maybe it is the AIs that don't work in the new version

Same here...I know that TNG_Fed and the BSG shipsets work...although I don't know about the Klingon or Hingl...Hinilan... igan...uh...'Homeworld' shipsets. Not sure if the AI is broken as per Capt Kwok's comments under the Mod section...should find out in the next couple of days.

I don't think the problem is the ship sets, I think it's more the Empire Scripts for the AI to use the ship sets. If you want to use the ship sets I don't think it's a problem.

Ship set tutorials can be found here at - http://www.spaceempires5.com/en-US/node/3274, or on the SE wiki at http://wiki.spaceempires.net/index.php/Shipset_Tutorials_%28SEV%29 which has a link at the bottom to a very informative tutorial of the Tylmai, I'm sorry I can't remember who did them. Hope this helps.

Right - It's not the shipsets themselves, but the AI's. If you want to play using a custom shipset for yourself there is no problem. If you include them as AI players they just sit there.

You can always copy an AI from a stock race and the empire will work as an AI in 1.58. That is what most (all?) of the custom shipsets with AI have done anyways.

The scripts (*.csf) have no race name in them. You should be able to simply copy all of the script files from a working race (that takes the same racial tech traits as the target race), rename them for the race in question, and be good to go.

All the star trek shipsets work ( tng, ferengi, dominion, etc.... )

Im playing balance mod with these cstom shipsets, but i replaced the AI files with the ones from BM.

How do you exclude a custom Shipset/Empire from use as an AI? I.E. What file(s) tell the game the shipset can be used as an AI race?

AI Main Data file for the particular race your wanting excluded, set Is Empire Race := False
