New Space Empires Shooter - "Mega Evil Empire" |

Fyron did a remake of that game with multiple playable ships (not sure where to find that version), and now I'm doing a remake using SE5 graphics!

It's called "Mega Evil Empire", the idea being that the story behind this game will eventually be something like this:
---MESSAGE FROM TERRAN COMMAND---
"Captain, the other races of the galaxy have declared us the Mega Evil Empire because we have lots and lots of minerals! They really want our minerals or something, and we have only one actual ship at the moment, which would be yours, so we're counting on you to go teach those pesky aliens a lesson!"
---END MESSAGE---
So I envision something along the lines of a Megaman-style stage select screen where you can choose which aliens to fight first, etc. and then when you go into a stage you can shoot enemies, etc. and sometimes they will drop parts you can install between missions (like the Phong might drop a shard cannon or something since they have crystalline tech), or they might drop minerals which you can use to buy new parts from Terran command between missions. Once you defeat all the aliens, I suppose you might have to go up against something really nasty along the lines of Dr. Wily, like maybe the Sithrak, or a corrupt Terran leader who is stealing all the Terrans' resources and building a private war fleet... (So THAT's where all the minerals went if they weren't going to the Terran shipyards!) 
But for now all I have is nine Xiati cruisers which move slowly down the screen and you can move your Terran dreadnought with the arrows and shoot with the Z key - the Xiati cruisers don't actually shoot or hurt you in any way, but I'll get there 
You'll need the XNA framework library (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A7DA4763-6807-4BD5-8D18-18C60C437F93&displaylang=en) to run this game, and that in turn requires .NET 2.0 and DirectX 9, but you probably have everything but XNA already if you keep your computer up to date.

I can't install the XNA framework library (don't have .NET 2.0), but on the original game, whoever made the SE Shooter obviously doesn't know how to use game maker properly-the bullets were off center, the explosion sprite and infobar layout was from the tutorial, and even the enemy types were from the tutorial. It could be ok with some improvement though. I also don't understand how you got permission to use those graphics-I tried but Aaron said they are for Space Empires only.

If you want people to be interested in your game, you definitely need to provide a screenshot.




And there are (crappy) particle effects (which slow the game down quite a bit) when things explode... I should reduce the number of particles but make each particle look fancier, no? That should reduce the amount of calculation...
