Homeworld Shipsets - How to?

Soumis par goodship01 le Lun, 2007-10-01 22:24 SE:V MODs

Is there a way that i could put the models from Homeworld and use it in the ship sets. Cause i am a fan of homeworld and wanted the Kushan so badly.

One more problem, how do i cover all the ship types, Kushan ships aren't that much? Maybe Support Frigate as light carrier, and the Kushan carrier are Carrier and Heavy carrier. How about Battleships? Certainly no Battleships exists in Homeworld only Battlecruisers.....

Just an FYI, I'm working on converting the Taiidan right now. It should be another week or two before its ready. I'm planning on doing the Kushan as well, but that will be at least a month out, if not more. Don't let my plans stop you from doing your own conversion though, the more people who know how the create shipsets, the better.

The way I handled ship assignments was to "promote" everything up the line. The heavy cruiser becomes the dreadnought, the destroyer becomes the battleship, and so on. Scale them up to the appropriate size for their new role and they look just fine. This should work well for the Kushan, but the Taiidan have a problem in that their corvettes look like giant fighters. Using them as frigates and destroyers is sort of cheesy, but I don't think any of the other models make a better fit.

Did u consider mixing the Hiigarans, or the Somtaaws with the Kushans and the Vaygr with the Taiidani?

And what software do you use? Because i found that the software they provide could opnly convert low poly count models, not as high as in Homeworld or HW2?

I never thought about mixing ships from different games. I don't own Cataclysm, so I don't have the Somtaaw. I didn't look at the ships from HW2 because Covenant already did a Hiigaran shipset and said in his Readme that he was working on the Vaygr, so I didn't bother.

At this point, the Taiidan shipset is mostly done, so I'm not going to go back and make major changes. I'm sure some folks will complain about the way my frigates and destroyers look, but that's their problem...

I'm using Bigviewer3 to extract the HW data, Lif2PSD to convert the textures and Lithium Unwrap to convert the models and re-texture when needed. I also tried the MilkShape demo, but this nasty little program failed to convert the HW models at all and it did horrible things to the textures when I tried to edit the models I converted with LithUnwrap. I do not recommend it.

I have no idea what software you're referring to; all the HW models are definitely low-polycount already.
