questions about strategy

Soumis par subba le Sam, 2007-09-29 16:22 Space Empires V FAQs

i hope someone can answer this.i play balance mod in case it is relevant.
1.i want to adjust the ships with "dont get hurt" strategy to stay inside the combat field without giving orders to them. is it possible ?

2. which ships are considered to be "retroseries" (most ships are of a older kind)

3.what is the crew experience good for ?

4. why do you have fleet and ship training academys, what is the difference ?

I'll let Capt Kwok answer 1 and 2. But 3 and 4 go kinda like this in the stock game.

3. Crew experience increases in combat situations. More experience means better aiming and more hits on enemy ship and better defensive fire. Learning this in combat is not the best way to gain experience. (Failures are usually fatal.)

4. Ship Training Academies increase crew experience without getting your ships all shot up. Fleet Training Academies increase the efficiency of all your ships in a fleet and increase their "cohesion" in combat. All without actually getting shot at.

Think of it this way. The first time you pick up a bow and arrow, you're not gonna hit your target. The hundredth time you pick up a bow and arrow, you're likely to hit the bullseye. It's much easier to learn to use a bow and arrow on a practice field than it is to learn with other people shooting arrows back at you!

1. Not at present. The next patch is supposed to allow this.

2. Don't worry about it. It's a term for building cheap (can be lower tech or maybe less components) ships and refitting them up to current specs. Speeds up production, but is expensive.

for 1. i found that if you have a taskforce at "dont get hurt" and all ships without weapons and set the strategy to "move away from danger in a group" they stay on the battlefield.

I saw another post on the forum that said you could change the values for the strategies, and I've seen, but not changed them in my game. I like to do small things not big things, and haven't really had combat, which I expect to change after I learn the basic and challenge you all to MP and get my butt kicked. In any case, if I remember right, you can change the base strategies for a type, like "run" to do what you want, which might be kamakazie. It's under the empire button.
