Miniaturization aka Nano-technology & Resource Optimaization

Soumis par JinXXX le Mar, 2007-09-25 22:31 SE:V MODs

Hi guys,

i'm trying to create a research item but i would very much prefer it to be in the "Applied Science" section , where by
it can give an empire wide bonus, that i'm planning to have..

1. Miniaturization/Nano Technology
2. Resource Optimaization

where by for Miniaturization, i plan to have a size reduction eg.. level 1 item size in kt reduce by 2% and so on..

how do i create the formula that would generate that kind of effect..

for item 2. i planning to do something that would optimize the resource usage eg, cuts maintainence & also increases storage & by a few percentage every turn, i know for maintainence i can refer to the economic cultural achievement for reference but for storage can i do such a function ?

is there a place i can refer other then the wiki..

i hope u guys can help, if you dont quiet get what i'm trying to say please ask..

I think what you'd have to do is put a Get_Empire_Tech_Level call into the tonnage field of your components/facilities/whatever that you want to miniaturize.
So if you wanted it to be 2% of the original size lopped off every level, use this formula (assuming 40 is the original tonnage):
40 - (Get_Empire_Tech_Level("Miniaturization") * 40 * 0.02)

Or if you want it to be exponential (2% off the first level, 2% off of the already-reduced amount the 2nd level, etc.) use this formula:
40 * (0.98 ^ Get_Empire_Tech_Level("Miniaturization"))

For the cargo storage, I think you can use the ability used by the Advanced Storage Techniques racial trait (forget what the ability's called). That ability is supposed to increase cargo storage by a certain percentage; if you attached it to a "cultural achievement" sort of thing then that should do the trick.

hey ekolis,

thanks for the advice..
i'll look up on the cultural traits that you mentioned..

but for your miniaturization, in a sense i have to do it for each and every component right ? since the formula is

tonnage - (Get_Empire_Tech_Level("Miniaturization") * 40 * 0.02)
tonnage * (0.98 ^ Get_Empire_Tech_Level("Miniaturization"))

and its sort of based on "ability of the component", is it possible for me to generate an empire wide bonus ?...

if thats the case i'll have lots of editing to do Sticking out tongue
ps sorry i'm kinda noob what ^ ?? i know + is for plus and -, * , / but ^ ????

Ok i've calculated/tabulated the reduction on an excel spread sheet A4*(B4^C4), where A = tonnage , B = .98 , C = level..
but it seems as the level goes up, the resulted calculation has some extra decimal placing..
eg
Tonnage 40 * (.98 ^ Level7) = Balance Tonnage 34.72502
Tonnage 40 * (.98 ^ Level8) = Balance Tonnage 34.03053

So how does SEV, calculate it or do i have to apply a formula where > .5 round up and

'^' would be to the 'power of' as in it will be 0.98 multiplied by itself 'tech level' times. As in tech level one will be tonnage*0.98, level 2 will be tonnage*0.98*0.98, level 3 - tonnage*0.98*0.98*0.98, etc. I would think that the first option would be the easiest, the only problem being if you have too many tech levels the components could get very small. I hope this made sense.

By default, SE:V will usually truncate decimals.

Hmm... JinXXX, if you want to make an empire-wide ability, you could try this... I don't know if it will work (Malfador's implementation of applying abilities to places where they're not used in stock is a bit spotty Sticking out tongue) but here goes nothing:

The ComponentEnhancements.txt file uses an ability called "Component - Tonnage Space Taken Percent" to increase the size of mounted weapons. If you were to place that ability in a cultural achievement with a negative value, it MIGHT reduce the size of all components when you gain that cultural achievement.

I doubt there's an ability to modify facility tonnage, though, but this could save you some work with the components at least Eye-wink

Hey ekolis,

yeah i was reading through the SE5_Modding.pdf, and i came across that ability that you mentioned Sticking out tongue

hopefully I'll be able to get it to work, but can the system understand "negative percentage values" ? , its suppose to be able to right ? , Hey Cap wanna fill us in on SEV's handing of negative values ?

I've also came across a few other that would make some interesting technology branch Sticking out tongue

"Space Yard Rate Modifier" - can be used with my nano-assembler tech tree Sticking out tongue
"Storage Cargo Space Percent" - for my resource/storage optimization, aka "flat space technology"
"Storage Facility Space Percent" - for my resource/storage optimization, aka "flat space technology"
"Supply Generation Modifier Percent" - for military/ships aka rationing for more resources Sticking out tongue
"Unit Maintenance Cost Modifier" - with nano tech, cost goes down Smiling

but the thing I'm curious is Sticking out tongue because i already have a racial trait for space yard rate modifier.. if i add in a cultural item for the space yard rate modifier, will it stack ? if not how can i make it stack, eg racial +25%, nano-assembler research +20% , will it be 45% ?

i wonder how i could implement this for fair play "Space Vehicles Movement Modifier", wanna make something that could implement slipstream or warp based "speed" into the game,
it kinda sucks when u need two turns to cross a solar system Sad or i could just create a new engine type , slip drive, hyper space drive or maybe a component that gives extra movement like solar sails Smiling that would be cool

its endless possibilities

I don't think % bonuses stack like that (10% + 10% = 20%)...my understanding is that they're applied one at a time, so say you generate 100 points plus 10%, that's 110, plus a further 10%, bringing you up to 121 (correct me if I'm wrong, it's a little after three am, I don't expect much of my math skills).

Anyways, it works out to 21% in my example if that is the case. Not much of an increase, but still noticeable, especially when you hit larger numbers.
