Space Empires Depot | SE:V Balance Mod

There are some games that can be played just fine without a patch. SE5 is NOT one of them. I would install the patch before playing even one game.

Then, you'll need the "Unnamed mod" and Kwaks "Balance mod" as well, imho. The stock game is ok for learning how to play, but you'll quickly want a mod to improve the AI.

There are few, if any, games you should _not_ apply the latest patch to, though...

Look in the docs folder in the SE5 install directory. There is a pdf file that introduces modding and lists the formulas available. The best way to learn is to make a copy of the data folder and just dive in and experiment. Also there is a SE5 mods topic here in the forums if you have any specific questions.

Unless they completely nerf something.... But mostly this is a true statement.
