Emperor of the universe (E.O.T.U) Open for players

The turns are done via PBW - http://seiv.pbw.cc - and since it's a 1v1 game, turns can be as fast or slow as the players desire. Games are not finished in one session; instead, you take your turn and upload the PLR file to PBW, then when both players have done so, PBW generates the next turn's GAM file, which both players download so they can take the next turn. If both players happen to be online at the same time, you might get a dozen turns done in an afternoon, but otherwise my experience with the KOTH and EOTU leagues says that there will be about 1-2 turns per day, so a game could last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. (Naturally, games with more players tend to be slower, since you have to wait for everyone to get their turns in, or have a deadline, so those games tend to be 1 turn every 1-3 days, but all KOTH/EOTU games are one-on-one so they go relatively quickly, for Space Empires at least )

Well, 1.10 is set up on PBW - but now it appears 1.11 is imminent... I guess since these games are pretty quick though we might as well start with 1.10?

I'm looking to try SV5 multiplayer, but I wanted to know a few things first:

Is the combat real-time like sv5 single player? Do both players control their fleets at the same time during real-time combat?

how long do turns usually take?

How does the whole PBW thing work for SV5? is it just a matching lobby?

If you like SEV and desire a greater challenge, multiplayer won't disappoint. Give it a try using PBW, one way or another (EOTU makes it easy to find opponents , and 2 player games have the benefit of faster game progression than a 6-15 player game). As Tak said, though, play at least some simultaneous turns against the AI to get a feel for how things flow. Also, if you are accustomed to manually controlling your ships in battle, spend a little time creating new combat strategies and trying them out in the simulator to get a feel for the strategic combat; it obviously has limitations compared to total manual control, but you might be surprised at what you can do with the strategy definition tools that are available.
