Ship capture? How about unit capture? |

My friend is tormenting me with drones right now because they're immune to missiles and ship capture. And I was thinking, why should they be? Why should units have that advantage over ships? We should add the ability for ships to capture fighters and drones in tractor beams, like the Death Star or Galaga. Require level 6 of ship capture and level 1 of tractor beams to pull a fighter into your ship's cargo bay. Level five and you can grab drones, level ten and you can put a tractor beam in a base ship and capture frigates.

Unit Capture?
Cool idea, but a bad idea in many ways.
Fighters:
Think Star Wars Episode 1, little puny fighter craft inside of big craft can cause much damage. (in that example, poor ship design made things worse...)
Drones:
Ever seen an explosion occur in an enclosed area? Not a good thing.
Space doesn't transmit shockwaves worth a darn, the interior of a ship provides lots of things to carry (or be carried by) the resulting shockwave/blast, which has nowhere to go by 'out'.
Ships:
Unlike Han Solo/the Millenium Falcon, or like the planet killer hating captain from the original Star Trek series, chances are, the ship being tractored inside of the big ship would LOVE the idea of being pulled INSIDE of a much biger enemy ship, where they have no shields and little armor to get in the way of all their weapons, and no enemy weapons capable of shooting back while they blow it up from the inside, or even self destruct to literally blow it up from the inside... This means making a big ship with many shield depleting and shield/weapon destroying weapons... which makes them less useful for other things... and still has a problem for captured ships equipped with a self destruct...
This is SE V afterall, not a Space Drama, some 'cool' ideas don't exactly work well in actual application...
Back to the drone problem.
There is already an excellent anti-drone defense measures in game.
Point Defense Weapons.
An anti-drone ship (or fleet) just needs the following.
Bomblet Missile for long range seekers that can track small targets.
Flak Cannons or PB Beams for medium range secondary PD defense for shooting stuff that survives the first Bomblet Missile salvo.
PB Blaster for fast firing tertiary PD defense for anything that gets past the medium and long range PD weapons.
Combat Sensors or other accuracy improving components.
A few weapons that PD heavy ships can use to shoot drones and enemy ships, so they can help pot shot enemy ships when the drones are gone.
A Strategy where drones are at the top of the target order list, to make them dead first and the enemy ships dead second.
Re: Ship capture? How about unit capture?
I think that unit capture would be usefull for special oprations aginst special oprations (and this is in SE done by spending inteligence points, not by ships), and if possible to analyze, then for stealing techs. (And it would require way how to disable such unit before pulling in, to prevent self destruct IN capturing ship)

Re: Ship capture? How about unit capture?
Even if you could, would it be worth the trouble? You can't analyze units, so all you'd get would be the drone.
I suppose that could be changed as well, in theory. I'd still rather cap ships than units.
