How do Resource Converter Facilities work. |
I've searched the forums and even found a few threads about this but have never found a satisfactory answer.
At this stage of the game, I've only Monoliths and there's enormous amounts of organic and radioactive resource being poured down the drain every turn. I'd like to reduce the number of monoliths but produce the same amount of minerals.
It states only one Resouce Converter per system is effective - ok.
I've right clicked on the planet with the converter, and set it to convert a few thousand organics to mineral and a few thousand radioactives to mineral and clicked ok.
(It's my main resource production system, it produces over a million of each every turn.)
And then nothing seems to happen - no new resources show up in storage like when you scrap something, the production amounts in the empire summary don't change either. it's also allowed me to go in and convert numerous times - to no effect.
Does the conversion happen at the end of the turn, making the resource avaliable for the next? If so, it's impossible to tell as other factor change the production figures at this time.
Will it continue to convert the specified amounts every turn or is conversion a manual job that has to be done every turn?
Stumped,
tyro.
Re: How do Resource Converter Facilities work.
There is only a need for one resource converter per EMPIRE, not system...it's manually used by the player at need and the ministers (and AI) have no clue about it. Which in limited resource games is a real shame as they tend to starve themselves out of minerals at a phenomenal rate.
Increased levels of the tech allow for less loss in the conversion.

Re: How do Resource Converter Facilities work.
I wonder if there is some way to utilize a resource converter via the script files? It would be so cool to immediately convert your excess production to underproduced supplies. For example, you're producing 45Kt of organics and can only store 40Kt but you're only producing 38Kt of minerals and can store 40Kt of that so automatically convert enough organics to fill your mineral storage and thereby reduce waste. Now, how to get that into the script?
Seems like an easy thing to code but I've been stumped before by codes not working.

Re: How do Resource Converter Facilities work.
Conversion is immediate.
It converts resources in storage, it has no effect on resource production.
You have to convert resources manually each time it is to be done, it does not repeat each turn.
It apparently doesn't matter where the facility is, I think the only requirement is having access to empire resouces via a space port in the same system. (can't confirm, present game is with a race that doesn't need space ports)
In case you might have missed a step, here is generally what I do when I have to convert resources. (I have SE V 1.44 stock)
In the Convert Resources screen.
1: select amount you wanted at bottom.
e.g., 1,000
2: select/click on a choice from Conversion Types.
e.g., Convert Organics -> Minerals
3: press the Convert button to add the conversion type/amount to the Conversions to Perform section on the right side.
e.g., Organics(1000) -> Minerals(800)
4: repeat above steps until desired amount and types of conversions are in the conversions to perform list.
e.g.
Organics(5000) -> Minerals(4000)
Radioactives(5000) -> Minerals(4000)
5: press OK.
With the above examples, on the main screen, Organics and Radioactives in storage should have dropped by 5000 each, and Minerals increased by 8000.
Keep an eye on storage capacity, you might loose converted resources if you try to convert resources into a type you have little or no capacity left for.
I hope this info helps.
