A couple of problems - damaged ships and planetary capture |
Hi all,
just started getting into the game and I've got a couple of problems. I'm playing a standard quick start game, turn 142, control a dozen systems, have about 120k research points to spend per turn.
1. I have a couple of Light Carriers that are badly damaged, both have no movement points, one has no crew or supplies, the other has both but is about 90% damaged. I can't scrap them as I get a message that there is no shipyard in the system - even though there is.
Is there anything I can do to repair them even if it's just enough to get them to the scrapyard as they are cluttering up my ship list. I have sent a destroyer to meet them but I can't transfer any supplies - I've managed to transfer supplies before to ships that got stranded so it's not that I can't do that.
2. In Ibsuk I have control of all the planets barring one. I've tried attacking it with fighters but they can't touch it. Tried a Cruiser with Planetary Napalm and that makes no impression either.
I've now got 4 troop transports building in system and will send them off as a pack when they are done. Not sure what I'm missing here. What does the planetary napalm do? Will the troop transports work - I haven't used them before?
I've researched medium to heavy hull to a lowish level & troop transports to about level 4
Great game by the way - I've just switched from X3 mainly 'cus Ive played it to death, this is a nice change but I think I'm getting sucked in...
Re: A couple of problems - damaged ships and planetary capture
For 1. If you research "Repair" you get a 150kt componant that repairs ships. That should fit on most of your hulls. That will repair your carriers. The supply problem could be because all of your supply storing componants are destroyed (engines and supply storage)
2. I always run into problems if I use fighters in ground combat. I hope you don't have the same problem I had.
You napalm won't be an option when you land troops on the planet. As soon as you start ground combat you 'stop' bombing (so you don't bomb your own troops).
Fighters count as troops, but i've had my fighters dissappear and get stuck off screen in past experience.
If you send a tonne of ground troops, you should win. Just load up with a lot of long range weapons.

2.Is it a ringed planet? If it is try the longest range ship weapon you have set to point blank.

Re: A couple of problems - damaged ships and planetary capture
to use troops you just need to put em into a transporter and in space-combat over the planet give the transporter the order "drop troops". in the next round there will then be a ground combat on that planet.

Re: A couple of problems - damaged ships and planetary capture
well for 1st 1 u nead to build a largish ship with a repair bay and move to same hex as the damaged ships, transfering supplies wont help if all engines damaged or destroyed. and not prob with shipyard in system in needs to be same hex again.
fighters are usualy pretty bad at destrying planets, giving them rocket pods helps and maybe more than 1 ship attacking at a time... planets take a bit of hammering, or jus troops like i do, 4 transports be overkill but least u get intact planet, is best realy if u got the time
