Fighter Groups not Attacking v. 1.44 |
This happens when the fighter group is used alone with either the 'attack' or 'move to' command (when enemy ships are in the traget hex). In tactical, the enemy moves around a bit, but the fighters are never seen and combat concludes with the combatants in two differnt hexes (the fighters 'retreated' I guess). In strategic, both sides are tabualted together as one side, and, after a bit, the attacking side vanishes only to reappear in an adjacent hex (retreated again).
This does not happen if the fighter group is itself attacked or if the fighter group is used in conjunction with regular ships.
An aside; I did not see a v. 1.47 change log. Must be blind. Cloaked mines and lists remembering the line you left at is progress.

Re: Fighter Groups not Attacking v. 1.44
I had a similar problem - I had a fighter group with about 125 fighters in it and sent it to slag a planet. Fighters turned back immediately when tactical combat started. I removed some fighters and sent about 85 back. They proceeded to wipe every nasty little Xiati from the planet.
I've seen some other funny behaviour. I have a Planet Capture fleet with three dropships and two escort frigates. The fleet has capture the planet attack orders and don't get hurt defence orders. Occasionally one dropship will turn back at the border and the rest of the fleet will carry on to engage satelites, drop troops etc. Haven't done a scientific study but seemed the lower the planets population, the more likely it was to happen.

Also, when you try to capture a planet, make sure that the troop ransports are not in different fleets. Otherwise they will gon one at a time, one fleet after the other (after the first is destroyed).
Re: Fighter Groups not Attacking v. 1.44
Write you own strategy, its a pain at first, but its worth it to get to know how to use them. Start by copying a strategy that is similar to what you want, then rename it and get to work.

Look at the 1.48 changelog topic.
