How do you upgrade your planetary weapons platforms, fighters, etc.? How to rename waypoints?

Soumis par Litjan le Ven, 2007-08-10 16:32 Space Empires V General

Hi all,

I like to fortify all my planets with a few planetary weapons platforms with missiles and guns, also with some fighters and satellites (for sensors and the odd missile).
After a while I will upgrade the designs for those platforms/fighters/sats, as new technology becomes available.
How do I upgrade this hardware without going to every single planet, scrapping the stuff and building new ones?
I noticed there are some ministers dealing with upgrading ships/scrapping cargo, etc. The last time I tried that they would scrap all my old bases - without waiting for new ones, first, and I promptly lost a few planets to lurking enemy frigates...

Another question, how do I rename my waypoints (to something else besides "waypoint 1", for example? Why can´t I create a rally point like this with the right-click-menu? I had to search around for the CTRL-Click information forever...

Will there ever be a way to select multiple planetary production queues with a SINGLE mouseclick? I asked in a previous post, and there seems to be none, currently. In my point of view this has to be among the most glaring shortcomings of the UI, so I am surprised that little gritty details seem to get a lot of attention in the patches, while the major roadblocks aren´t touched. (If you are not sure what I mean, try to build a few new planetary bases on ALL of your planets - must have more than 20 planets to really understand).

I think that after working with SEV for so many months a lot of the veterans (including the creator) don´t even notice how clumsy the interface is at times (it´s brilliant in some other aspects), and just get used to the "workarounds". I feel that the game get´s totally tedious and confusing after about 100 turns, I like complex games, but I don´t like a complex interface. After going through the reports at the beginning of my turn I have mostly forgotten what ships where going where, what I wanted to build at which planet, where the enemy moved after disappearing into the sensorless void (I consider it an insult if someone expects me to watch that movement log, and sit through the AI´s moving of 73 ships from square A to B, then from B to C, then from C to D,...you get the picture).

SEV is at the moment too much micromanagement, too clumsy and confusing in the interface and too sterile in atmosphere to really get me worked up and riveted to that "next turn" as other games seem to be able to (and this is coming from someone who thought MOO3 was a good game - for a few days). I love it for the little details, it´s versatility, the cool techs and the great spacebattles, and I really want it to succeed.

Sorry if this turned into a rant, just my 2 cents...well, maybe a dime Eye-wink

In the planet build queue (lower left of the build queue window) you can set a way point as a destination, ships built there will auto move to the way point.

Might try the minister on a different setting vs moderate or aggressive. It might build more defenses.

Use the wrench icon from the main tool bar, on the left, select multiple queues.

You can reconfigure your colony view window, to show about an infinite amount of different informative views. Make one that suits your needs/wants, and save it. I have 3-4 I like.

about the upgrade of units (fighters, platforms, etc.)...it´s not possible.
i do it with the order to add something to all (or selected) building queues of planets.
after they are build i go around and scrap the old ones.

A waypoint is simply a place to meet. Called a waypoint because it is on the way to somewhere else and is just a point where you want ships to meet at before going to somewhere else. Smiling You set it with CONTROL-# and then clicking somewhere on the map where you want the ships to meet. I.E. CONTROL and 1 would be Waypoint 1. You can send ships to it once it is set as above automatically, or you can manually send a ship there if the ship is selected by just hitting the 1 button for waypoint 1.

I had this weird bug in a PBW game (a while ago, I think it must have been fixed in a patch) where I had a particular fighter design that was being built, but still had the edit design button active. Any changes to the design made the currently built fighters the same.

Good thing I didn't edit it by accitdent, I had about 1k fighters which would have steamrolled over the opposition rather than being in stalemate.
