Storm, Asteriods Properties & System Notes

Soumis par Celegans le Mer, 2007-08-08 20:27 Space Empires V General

Apologies if this has already been covered elsehwere. I'm finding with recent patch levels (not sure what level exactly I first noticed) that the storms and asteroid fields that do damage to my ships are, occasionally, not identified as such in the system notes on the top left of the system display until after I enter them and take damage. Once that's happened, then the system notes show that sector as damaging. Most of the time (and all the time in earlier patch levels, I think) the system notes show these before I entered them. Was this changed deliberately as a "realism" enhancement, or is it a bug? I'm on SE-V v1.44 + BM 1.08

Separately, I'm wondering about the consistency (or lack thereof) between the level of "occlusion" reported in the detail report for a storm or asteroid field and info provided about the sectors in the system's notes. If a storm's occlusion level is reported as "severe" but there's no mention in the system notes that this sector is "opaque to scanners", then will it or won't it hide me?

Any insight would be appreciated!

There can be both system-level and sector-level (individual storm) cloaking. The best of the two should apply.

Its not clear to me why sector-level storm/asteroid abilities should be reported in the system abilities list. They are reported in the object reports. Maybe the abilities of a stellar object should be shown directly when you click on an object, alleviating the need to go into the report all the time, but they shouldn't all be listed in the system-wide report. Nebula systems would be a huge mess if they did that.
