Reading CD Troubles |
I jsut received my copy in the mail today and when I tried to install it I had alot of trouble with my computer reading the disc. It toke at lease a minute for the set up sequence to start and I was able to install the game. I have a CD-RW and a DVD-RW, has anyone encountered this before? Also it locked up mysystem, I even had issues with getting into the task manager window.

Does the copy work better?
Does the copy work better than the original?
Just got mine..
and I have the same issue. Have not tried to copy it yet, hopefully that works. Its the EB Games Bonus edition..
Also..%@W^ CD keys. On the outside of a flimsy paper case, no less. Weak.
EDIT: copying setup.exe to the hard drive worked.
Well just installed mine and
Well just installed mine and worked fine, have to agree the key code on paper sleeve is rather cheap.

Use Magic Marker
Take a magic marker, and write the CD key directly onto the top of the CD. Before you lose the stupid little paper cd key, and have a bajillion headaches looking for it six months from now.
Well the original cd anyway
Well the original cd anyway had the artwork on it so instead of using a sharpy on it wrote it in the manual.

I tend to lose the manual
I tend to lose the manual before I lose the CD, so I like it to be right there when I install, no matter what.
Another method if you make a backup CD, is to add a cd-key.txt file to the root directory.
Chuckle nah I have a drawer
Chuckle nah I have a drawer full of nothing but manuals finding the cd's(or disks) on the other hand might be hard...looks at Bards Tale manual
OOT - Bards Tale manual?
I take it you mean the new Bards Tale and not the orginal?
BTW - How did they compair?
Never tried the new one so
Never tried the new one so couldn't say.

Ouch
Ouch. I assume your drives haven't ever exhibited this behavior. If it is readable enough to install the game, it should be possible to just make a copy of the disc, something you should do anyway for backup purposes.
After making the image of it, burn a new copy to cdr and see if the behavior continues. It almost certainly won't, and this would mean a defective or damaged CD.
If you have another computer, you could also try it on that.
