Tooltip not working?

I'm trying Space Empires 5 out as an alternative to GC2.

However, I'm having trouble reading the tooltips that pop up to help me learn the game.

They are simply grey boxes. That's it.

The map in the bottom right of the screen is also fuzzy.

This looka a good game, exactly what I'm in to...but not a good start yet.
