Neverending combat against colonies |
Sometimes combat against a planet never ends. This is partially my own fault, because I've modded damage to have much less effect against population. At low tech levels, this means that weapons can't kill any population at all. So, in theory, the combat should just time out after the default five minutes, right? Well, it doesn't always happen. The ships just continue firing for ten, twenty, thirty minutes, then the display starts going buggy (not clearing explosions), and finally the ships run out of supplies/ordnance and attempt to retreat but just keep on flying right on to infinity and the combat keeps running.
I'm not sure if this is a game bug or a mod bug. It will never show up in stock because even a wimpy DUC frigate will either wipe out a colony or run out of ordnance long before the magic five minute mark. Has anyone else ever come across something similar?
And what does Space Combat Ends Only When Time Up Or No Enemies in settings.txt do? It isn't in the docs.

Re: Neverending combat against colonies
From what I've observed, the time limit isn't so very fixed. As long as ships are shooting, combat will continue.
For example, Balance Mod's normal combat limit is about 3 minutes, but I've had battles drag out to 3 1/2 or 4 minutes.
It is a good thing, since it'd be dumb to have battles ending "just because time's up".
I like the sound of where you're trying to go with your mod, btw. Civilian casualties are way, way, way too high. They're not realistic or balanced.
Perhaps you'd do well to scrap the unlimited ammo. But I didn't care for that part of the story, so I'm biased. I think ammo should always be finite.
