The Unbalancing of the Game since v 1.29 - Point Defense Weapons |
This may not be a "bug" in the traditional sense, but I absoulutly love the concept of this game and so I feel compelled to state my case.
In the changelog the following is stated:
Version 1.29:
8. Changed - Point - Defense Blaster: increased space taken, increased cost, decreased damage, increased reload rate.
9. Changed - Point - Defense Beam: decreased damage.
In my opinion this unbalances the game and here is why I believe that. Before this change the the point defense blaster could chew through enemy fighters very easily allowing the carriers to be effectivly useless when placed against ships containing primarily those weapons, now however, there is effectivly nothing at lower technology levels that can fire fast enough to defeat even one carrier worth of fighters, so even 4 frigates outfitted with entirely Point defense weapons (which now costs more than the carrier) can't defeat the fighters... This means that the only economically viable strategy is to produce more carriers to fight off the carriers.
Effectivly what I am saying is this: Before ->
Carrier defeats -> Ship w/weapons
Ship w/point defense defeats -> Carrier
Ship w/weapons defeats -> Ship w/point defense
Before there was a balance, no ship could travel the universe without an escort... Now->
Carrier defeats -> EVERYTHING!!!
Perhaps I simply have not played the game long enough to understand it well, but I feel as though at the lower technology levels, this is true, thus my suggesstion is a dramatic increase in the power level and fire-rate of point defense weapons to re-establish this balance.
