Need a sound adjustment

Hiya all.
Played a while back and just decided to give her another go... anyways.

Getting rather annoyed at the sound for combat during Tactical combat. Unless i zoom all the way in to one ship (where i cant see anything else going on) i cant hear the ships fire anything or any of the cool nifty sound effects. And i can hear them just fine in the Strategic combat screen (where i could care less about them).

Now I assume to fix this i edit SoundEffects.txt
I have tried this(just an example.. i changed all of the weapons and effects):
Sound Effect Name := Anti - Proton Beam
Sound Effect Filename := WeaponAntiProtonBeam.wav
Sound Min Distance := 40
Sound Max Distance := 1000 (Changed this to 9999 and didnt help)
Effect Instances := 3
Is 3D Sound Effect := TRUE

All i want to be able to do is hear the combat and not be zoomed in to the max.. Any assistance would be great.
