ai difficulty vs ai bonus

Hi, i was just wondering what the easy/medium/hard ai setting really does
the ai bonus i pretty straight forward i think

but i just keep wondering what the difficulty setting does, because i 'think' there is just one ai script?

also what game settings do you suppose works best for balance and irm mod?

aye i've been curious about this too, tho i dont quite get the bonus tho, ive been thinking about jacking both up to high and cowering in a corner Sticking out tongue

I'm not sure how the difficulty level is achieved. In SE:IV, it would reduce the number of ministers the AI could use, but I don't see any such mechanism in SE:V - I'd just keep it to high.

I'd recommend at least a low bonus (1.5x production/construction) for the AI - this gives them a little kick in the pants to make up for a player's ability to really plan ahead etc. A high bonus (5x production/construction) would be more of a challenge.

ahh now that definatly does explain how some empires ive been facing have been able to churn out more colony ships than ive been able to Sticking out tongue

so the bonus just gives a production/construction bonus this is good, it helps the ai without feeling like a cheat

funny that what the difficulty does is not clear atm

any suggestion for tech starting points?
i think you said in one thread that the game should have some in ordet to make the ai properly use its special techs (crystalline etc)
is this (still) the case, and how many points would you consider the minimum for that

and are there any known issues with the ai not properly defending itself from a certain type of attack (like in early versions were the ai didnt put enough pd ships in its fleet)
thus making it an exploit

great work on it btw, also looking forward to your new mod

I recommend 500,000 points to start for the Balance Mod, it allows the AIs to have their racial traits from the start.

The difficulty setting could be coded into the AI, with look ahead, memory, and analysing enemy designs determined by the AI level.

So Kwok, your're recommending taking 500,000 of starting tech. Does this mean giving the AI those points and not taking any tech for yourself? I guess I don't understand the "cowering in the corner" coments... I have the computer set on High and max bonuse everytime, and I'm also now giving it a large tech bonus to start with... I don't mean to be tooting my own horn here, I'm just saying the Ai isn't very fearful yet. (I'm playing Balance mod 1.06, does the newest version have an Ai to fear?)

The latest v1.07 and v1.08 feature new AI designs, more focused weapons research, and better fleet management, so in that respect it should be much more improve than v1.06.

You probably didn't extract it to the right location. It should be unzipped directly to the GameTypes folder. It will create its own folder there. See the link below for an image of the proper folder structure.
