Colonization ship vanished and got replaced by 2 destroyers? (SE:V v1.35)

Soumis par ZaphodBeeblebrox le Mer, 2007-06-06 16:03 Bug Reports

Not sure if this is a bug or if there is some crazy explanation for it but it seems like a bug anyway.

Round about the 3rd year of the game I destroyed all of the engines on full alien colonization ship that was in one of my systems. The ship also had no supplies. I put ships at each warp point around the system to prevent the ship getting out or any more alien ships getting in.

The colony ship was there several years in the same spot till I eventually got boarding parties (I wanted to board the ship to get the guys on board to colonize a different atmosphere world without doming). I tried to board the ship but was unsuccessful, only killing about 25 of the 50 crew. I sent out a couple more boarding ships and on the one turn that they would have been able to attack, the colony ship has been replaced by an alien destroyer (damaged and with no supplies), and a 2nd destroyer has magically appeared at the other side of the same system.

I had around 90% visibility of the system, plus ships guarding each warp point. I haven't encountered any alien ships with cloaking or the ability to retrofit colony ships to destroyers out in space so what could the reason for this be? I no longer have the savegame from directly before this turn either since I overwritten the savegame at the start of the turn before I noticed the problem.

A few other issues....
I reloaded the savegame a few times to send exploration ships in different directions just to see if there was any sign of the colony ship anywhere or any other explanation. After reloading it a few times I started getting an error loading the savegame. After restarting SE5 it was fine again though, other than the missing colony ship and mysterious 2 destroyers.

I used one of the boarding ships to try and capture one of the destroyers (no chance I know since the boarding ship was a cheap unarmed one) but one thing I noticed was the shots from the enemy ship (using depleted uranium cannons) skipped my armor and attacked the boarding parties (who were in the inner hull) directly. Is this normal and if so is there any point in placing boarding parties in the inner hull?

If you lauch the boarding shuttles the boarding partys are destroyed as for the rest of it it might be a one off random bug. If you can reproduce it send the save game to Aeron at MM and it will get fixed

Well it might have been a spatical warp event.

There is a event that randomly teleports units to another location, but the event seems to be flawed in it's randomness.... What's happened to me is this:

Starbase around my planet disappears and reappears 2/3 across the galaxy (not in the same system) and is reported as spatical event.

Next turn:

Opponents starbase disappears and reappears right beside my warped base, 1 sector over.

The event seems flawed because it seems to happen to "land" in the same space almost all the time, and seems to pick the same unit types to warp, you might have just had the bad luck of it happening, Either that or unstable wormholes might be the case (I can't confirm if that really is coded, but I'll tell you about a odd story below)

I was playing a single player game vs 3 AI's, I quickly scouted out the choke points and setup blockades there, but there was one string of systems that was similar to Blackhole->Empty Nebula->Empty Nebula->System with only 2 warp points connecting each in a "string" well I didn't want to send things through all that right away, but I scouted the system and it was empty. Severl turns later enemy ships started coming from that direction, I scouted back and found several enemy planets, Dispatched them all and left the system again, several turns later more ships and planets again... dispatched, established a colony and left a frigate there to watch. Sure enough after a couple turns a enemy colony ship appeared in the middle of the sector, out of nowhere... Attacked it destroyed it couple turns later another appeared in the same spot.... Long story short it kept happening all game, later I setup the most advanced sensors I could, Closed the warp point and isolated the system, surrounded the "landing point" with ships and every 2-3 turns another colony ship would appear in the exact same spot, didn't stop till I destroyed the offending civilization

Thats almost like a game I had recently, two warp points in my empire did not go to the system they said they did, and they were one way only. It was a pain to move ships, Going one way a ship only had to go through three systems to get from the far south end of my empire to the upper north west tip, but to get from the upper north the ship had to go through a minimum of nine systems to get to the south frontier . Map settings - large cluster - warp points any ware in system.

Just thought it was a cool new warp point feature- one way warps - Just was annoyed that it said it would go to X system but the ships would appear in Y system every time and always in the same place.
