Does SEV have the ability to wait for events to happen (rather than just a turn number) to fire a certain script? Alternately, can scripts be used to fire or trigger something like a star collapse or a planet destruction?

Yes. You'd just need to have a custom events script included with a mod for the scenario etc.

Cool. Is there someplace I can readup on that?

Also, is it possible to create components for which only one can exist in your fleet at a time? e.g. if a ship with "Captain Jones" component is built in the fleet, another ship with the "Captain Jones" component cannot be built until the other "Captain Jones" ship no longer exists? (due to destruction, decommission or refit...er, retrofit)

Nevermind on that one, I found the script.pdf. I'll give myself a duh on that one. I'm so busy writing up characters and story line I'm not researching code elements yet.

It's possible to have a "captain" component, but no way to limit it to just one per empire etc.

Yes, I've already experimented with such components.

Would it be possible to code such a thing in using scripts? I suppose I could always do it in a scripted way with a new ship design or some such would automatically transfer the 'flag'; or when a specific event occurs it also spawns an upgraded flag ship.

I'd still like to code in one component per empire if that is possible.

A good story can't be told w/o a cast of characters after all.
