Description
I performed a search for 'memory' on the 1.35 and 1.33 releases under active bug reports with normal or critical priorities. Just a disclaimer that the effort was put forth in making sure I didn't clog up the current list of enhancement/feature requests, issues, and so forth.
I see this being discussed in the forums at times, but it doesn't appear to actually be written up anywhere, unless it was created under and is associated with an early release of the game.
2ghz Athlon 3800+ dual-core
1gb DDR2 667mhz ram
256mb DDR2 PCIe graphics card (PNY GeForce 7300GT)
Windows XP SP2
Setup of game...I'll just go down the option list.
Display Driver: Primary display driver
Video Mode: Windowed (1280x1024 native resolution)
3D Device: Direct3D T&L
Video Memory Usage: Safe (I go back and forth between this and 'Auto')
Graphic detail: High
Background detail: Low
...yadda yadda. Thanks to those who made it this far.
At 40% cpu and 306mb of system resource usage while merely viewing a system, something is certainly awry. With such a huge spectrum of game configurations and system specifications, it's hard to nail these things down, but this is most likely manifesting itself on every machine to a certain degree. As one might gather from the fix I listed below, there are multiple issues that stack on top of each other to reach the what I am seeing on my system. In nearly every aspect, the game loses it's smoothness.
I had high hopes for the issue addressed in 1.34...
5. Fixed - Old movement log entries were not being deleted properly resulting in a memory leak.
However, it appears to have had a minimal impact, assuming it was a contributing factor. Do we have suggestions and perhaps confirmations (from you programmer and modding types) as to what individual areas need tweaking? This would probably help Aaron with honing in on, and revising the offending code.
