Most Modable Game Ever |
I am absolutely amazed at the changes people have made to the game through mods. It seems to me that this is the most modable game every made. Not only does it make the game more fun but it also facilitates a dynamic community around the game.
Have you ever seen a game more modifiable (is that a word?)?

Heck, in Civ IV you can evan magicaly create units in a normal game. It's like a campain editor in the middle of the game! Unfortunatly, I think that CIV IV is under utilized, as it is difficult to find any mods at all...

Prior to SEV, Civ was my favorite game. I didn't realize so many mods had been created. I did some looking and saw that there's some pretty great mods out there for Civ IV. HOWEVER...apparently the next expansion is due out in a couple months...so all those mods won't work. I guess I'll just wait for the expansion...which looks AWESOME....

Civ 4 is the most moddable game I have played yet. I made a decent sized mod for it that changed how culture worked (or was supposed to, the game doesn't even check to see if a city will flip if it's not in control! This could be fixed with the SDK, but that's a different monster than python), added a bunch of buildings, and made the resources much more important for general infrastructure.

From what I can see, its from an Official Expansion being released for Civ IV as an Update to the End Game space race to Alpha Centauri.

It's got to be a mod though. Look at the image in the corner of the build panel. Thats a stone fort. If it was expansion, then it would be all space futury...

Yes. Barring open source games (
), just take a look at Civ IV. A large portion of its game engine is in a user editable C++ SDK and Python scripts. While SE5 is quite moddable in its own right, it doesn't even come close to that. Its quite remarkable for a single person dev, though.
