Fighters doing unexpected things |
I'm currently building some fighter units to defend my planets, there's a few things I've noticed that seem a bit odd.
A) if they take any damage, they just fly away rather than attack.
B) They will swarm in for 1 attack run, then they'll fly away. I've had a few times, when my fighters almost killed an enemy ship only to just fly away letting it escape. They still have supplies + ordnance on them.
C) Sometimes I'll lose about several fighters that are attacking an unarmed ship, how on earth do they manage that? Do they ram it?
Anyone else noticed these oddities? I should add, I don't actually have carriers with them, but this shouldn't make any difference I would have thought (unless it's a bug).

Re: Fighters doing unexpected things
Have you selected "figher attack" for the attack strategy? I've found that strategy should not be selected for fighters. When I performed some quick space combat simulations, I found that the fighters will basically kamikazee into the side of the ship. Select optimal firing range for your fighters, you'll find that the fighters are so difficult to kill that you will barely ever lose any.

Re: Fighters doing unexpected things
I haven't noticed this problem. I usually have loaded carriers, with too many to keep track of. However, I always watch for my fighters fleeing, they only seem to do so when heavily damaged. I'll pay more attention to specific fighters and also see if I can get into some smaller scuffles.
