Sugest a 3d modeler program |
Just a quick one in the process of moving I found my GZG Model starship fleets (New Swabian league, Eurasion Solar Union, UNSC, and New Anglian to be exact) and would like to have a go producing some ships sets based on them for SEV.
I am however stuck with what 3d modeller to use and don’t really have any money to buy one with so would appreciate suggestions for suitable free or open source applications.
Re: Sugest a 3d modeler program
I recommend Blender as well.
I used to use 3DSMax exclusivly, but after moving to XP and a 64-bit CPU, I would have to buy a new copy. $3500.00 US (heck, $500.00 US for the educational version) is WAY beyond my means for a hobby. It has to be my career at that point.
Blender (I'm still learning it, I want to add some races) seems powerful and featured enough to do what I want, and free is cheap at twice the price.
--Edit--
This just reminded me of a question I want to ask:
What 3D software was used in the development of SE5?

The power of the ancients is now yours to command. You are truly the Master... of the obvious :P
Hmmm...I'm going to have to check out those other two. Especially Art of Illusion...

Another one is Gmax, based on 3DS Max engine but scaled down. Its free through registration at TurboSquid. Also have several support add ons that assist in exporting and importing into other games (not SEV yet).

You'll have to register an account but that is free

Here is a webpage of interest: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Sculpted_Prims:_3d_Software_Guide
It has some good info on 3d model programs, pricing and such (some I didn't even know about).
