Need help with simple but yet important qestion!!!!

Soumis par sgp667 le Sam, 2007-04-28 09:43 Space Empires V General

Alright I have to say that I love that game I play it 24/7 but I still don't know some things. My most important questions are
1)IS THERE A POINT IN MAKING SHIPS AND FIGHTERS/DRONES WITHOUT MAX SPEED?????????? I want to know because I've made are Destroyer armed with seeking parasites and no one had a weapon with that long range and my engines had +1 to speed so it was the fastest ship to. Since there was not a single ship that could fly faster in order to get closer and take a shot there was no way to destroy it not even PD ships where able to destroy all incoming missiles it was like my ship was invincible;p

2) WHY USE CLOAKING BY THE TIME I'VE GAINED IT EVERYONE HAD TO GOOD SENSORS!!!!!!!

3)WHY USE SCANNERS DON'T SENSORS DO THE SAME THING???

4)DOES ORGANIC ARMOR STACK????

5)IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NORMAL AND ORGANIC SHIPS EXCEPT FOR THEIR PRICE???????

Thanks guys I appreciate all replies!
Help!!!!!!!!!!!;(

hmm, well from my knowledge i can say the following

2) cloaking is normaly a tech for someone who has advantage in research cause otherwise it isn´t so usefull anymore. on the other hand, you force your enemy to spend space for good sensors.

3) scanners scan the components of a ship, with sensors you can just see ships over distance so they are two different things.

4) i think not, as shield regenerators they don´t stack the regeneration process

5) the price and the special effect of the armor should be all....the organic armor only works on organic ships, not on normal ones

1) Not really, unless you are building a fighting carrier...and evan then....

I've made construction ships with lower than max movement. The reason was to give them enough room for the shipyard and some defenses (no point in having a ship that will run for the next sector the first time an enemy pokes its head through the warp point I'm trying to build space stations to defend, after all).

As for ship types (normal, crystal, organic) ... the only differences are in the base cost. Organic ships don't have organic components (unless you're using weapons from the organic weapons tech) and crystalline ships don't have crystalline components so the additional costs from adding components tend to favor minerals anyway.

The only reasons I have for taking Organic or Crystalline racial techs are the weapons and the other applications, not for the ship types. The game is so heavily biased towards minerals that the differences in base hull costs aren't worth worrying about, IMO.

As far as the sensors/cloak goes ... it would be *really* nice if cloaking reduced the range at which you could be deteced, rather than simply hiding you completely from any sensor of that level or lower. The way it is now ... most of the time if you have a tech advantage over the computer you can sneak some ships through via cloak, on scouting missions, but I've yet to see a planet I needed to sneak to in order to destroy.

Organic Armor regeneration does stack, it is not broken like shield regeneration.

Shield regeneration doesn't stack as intentionally done. Er, it's intended not to stack. If you had max regenerator tech and put say ten shield regenerators on a dreadnought, you could take on entire fleets with just one ship and never lose your shields. I know it is not perfect, but it's more sensible. There's no limit on numbers like armor, as armor has slots for it.

YES IT IS INTENDED TO STACK. It is defined in the modding documents as being able to stack, and it stacked in SE:IV. Oy.

I know it stacked in Starfury. Pretty much required to get anywhere with large shields. As per my usual rewrite, I could also argue there's no reason not to, as weaponry gets such high damage at high tech levels, that even with the regeneration, it's not going to keep you around much longer.

Or one could argue that a Starbase could be set up in such fashion that it regenerated it's entire shield capacity in a few seconds, making it virtually indestructible to anything short of a large fleet hitting it as one.

I admit I'd rather it stack. I'm just being my usual self and rewinding, rewriting, rethinking, and generally hopping back and forth over yet another line without actually landing ON the line. o.O;
