Ordering SEV |

I'm having a problem deciding where to pick up a copy of SEV when it's released. My concerns are price and availability.
Price wise: Gamestop is listing the game at $39.99, but that is including the 'bonus' of SEIV:Deluxe. If Strategy First sells the game at $39.99 (which seems to be on par with their pricing scheme), I might as well order from Gamestop and get the SEIV bonus.
However, I care less about getting SEIV as a bonus than I do about getting the game as soon as possible. Chances are I can get it soonest from Strategy First (or maybe through Steam?) as a download.
Release date is also of concern to me. Gamestop says 10/5, Strategy First says 10/16.
I suppose I'll have to wait till 10/5, and see what happens.

So... what does that mean? I
So... what does that mean? I was able to preorder two days ago; did they take an improper early preorder, or is that the day the preorders ship? Strange they would ship preorders before actually putting the game on the shelves (as opposed to doing both simultaneously but giving the preorders priority)... I hope I get the full thing and not some trimmed-down CD-only thing missing like the manual or something... :-/

This is normal behaviour for online game dealers. Some sought-after titles can be ordered months before they actually ship.

I'm going to wait for the downloadable version. Since i'm stuck over the pond in the UK, I'm not going to wait the 2/3 weeks shipping.

Online vs Retail
I'm actually thinking of buying the download version rather than the box, so I'd be interested to hear the experiences of those who've taken that route. Do the patches show up as fast, are there any other problems to be aware of (yes, I have a broadband connection), etc.?
Still Confused
On Gamestop's website, it says Pre-Release Ship Date 10/5/2006.
To me that sounds like it should ship on 10/5/2006.

I would just wait for the box...
Why deal with the hassle of DL game issues and their security when you can buy the box and have a more 'permanent' copy.
Anyways... pre-release ship date may have to do with sending you the bonus?

I believe it's been pointed
I believe it's been pointed out on other threads here that the 10/5 date Gamestop has is their pre-order date, not the actual release date. The last time I checked Gamestop myself, they were estimating a 10/17 date for being actually on the shelves.
