Bug with organic armor? |
I have two fairly low-level ships, one with Organic Armor, the other with regular. I want to put them against each other to compare their relative defensive (armor) capabilities. They are each armed with DUCs, and other than armor are essentially identical. I load up the space simulator in tactical mode, both ships turn slightly towards one another, and then stop. The combat clock keeps moving foward, and both ships still have orders in their queue, but neither move. If I speed up, slow down, it doesn't matter, neither ship moves (or fires). There are no obvious visual glitches within the game. I have tried saving and restarting the game to no effect. I'm playing in a multiplayer game over PBW, which began with version 1.25 and is now running 1.33.
This is a particularly charming bug when I try to load up a round in strategic mode, as there is no way to end the strategic combat, since neither ship can/will move. I had to hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and end the program from there.
This odd freezing effect does not happen with any other combination of ships. The only time it happens is when one (or more) ships have organic armor equipped. Has anyone encountered this before? I'm at a complete loss as to what to do about this; I don't even know if it's a bug with the game in general, or specifically something on my end. Help is appreciated!

Re: Bug with organic armor?
make sure you put each ship as a seperate Empire when you set up the simulation. You has the two ships as allies.

Re: Bug with organic armor?
Hopefully in the simulator you can end the simulation with the button at the top of the bottom panel... sorry i can't be more specific than that.
SEV, more than a feeling.
Re: Bug with organic armor?
One of the more bizarre aspects of the manifestation of this bug occured when it first started happening. Only the organic armor ship would get stuck; the second ship would be able to turn properly, and would move directly towards its opponent on an intercept course. It was almost as if there were a bubble of "frozen time" or something around the organic armor ship however. Once the regular armor ship got within range of its weapons, it would fire off volleys of DUCs, and the "bullets" would freeze in mid-air... er, mid-space. The regular armor ship would then circle again and again, firing volley after volley, but each round of DUC ordnance would just get lodged in the bug's radius, and sit there, not impacting the organic armor ship at all.
As I say, all very bizarre. Thanks for the quick suggestions everyone, and like I said, if I can reproduce the problem I'll return with more details.
Yep, I ran into the same issue, except mine was with drones and fighters. I got a bit miffed, but after I restarted the game (it may have been a full system reboot, I don't remember now) the problem went away.

Re: Bug with organic armor?
possibly it's related to the 'memory bug'
I've seen it happen in the current beta verson, but I had a lot of other stuff going on, and had run a few sims before too. I've already told aaron about something simular, so I'll try reproduce it next patch...

Re: Bug with organic armor?
I just tested this out and didn't have any problems. I tried it out using both normal and organic hulls, though I didn't think to try it with a normal hull vs an organic hull. In both my experiments, the ships turned towards each other, flew into weapons range and proceded to blow the unmerciful crap out of each other (organic armor won handily both times, btw).
Given the amount of variables that could be causing this behaviour for you, right down to what level of normal/organic armor you've researched (started the game with All technology to expediate testing), your best bet is to send a savegame to Aaron (se5@malfador.com) and let him see if he can duplicate, and hopefully fix, the problem.
