SE5 Multimedia Pack |
Keeping with the SE4 tradition of the Image Mod, we have created a new version for SE5, entitled the Multimedia Pack. As with the Image Mod, the purpose is to provide a common base set of image (and sound) files that modders can use in their mods. Players only need to install the packs once in their default SE5 folders, and all mods will be able to use them. Mods should not include any of these files directly, thus saving lots of download time and bandwidth.
The first versions are ready for consumption, including a Components Pack and a Stellar Pack. Enjoy!
Re: SE5 Multimedia Pack
Haven't noticed any problems here.
Re: SE5 Multimedia Pack
There is a problem, with display of the sun after installation of pictures from a Mod 1.3. Where it is possible to correct it? http://day0.narod.ru/Clipboard01.jpg
The problem effect was because of new MOD file \Pictures\Effects\StarGlow.bmp
Re: SE5 Multimedia Pack
That is very strange. Have you tried recopying that file?
Re: SE5 Multimedia Pack
Yes I copied files from mod in corresponding folders with rewriting. Before copying having kept the original.

Re: SE5 Multimedia Pack
Can someone direct me in installing the multimedia pack? I want to make sure I do this right. All i need to know is where to put the files exactly.
Re: SE5 Multimedia Pack
Thanks Fyron
Ok I had few other questions.
- I like some of the new planets from the multimedia pack, but some I don't really care for. Would there be a way to edit out a few of the ones that I didn't like?
- Is there a way of adding both the new planet models + the old?
- Is there a way of getting rid of the planet atmosphere glow effect but not the stars flaming glow? ie. I really like the flaming surface look that stars have with the Multimedia pack, but the planet atmosphere glow looks cheesy/fake to me.
I have been moving files around and playing around with folders and so far have had no luck. If there is a way to manually change any of these without crashing I would really appreciate any advice.

Re: SE5 Multimedia Pack
Are you confusing the Multimedia Pack with Fyron's Quadrant Mod? The MMP doesn't actually overwrite any files (save perhaps for some collections of mini icons, but all the stock icons are left alone in those collections) so playing a stock game with the MMP installed will not be any different from a stock game without the MMP. Mods (such as Fyron's Quadrant Mod) use the graphics in the MMP and that's where you'll notice the difference.

Re: SE5 Multimedia Pack
Yeah I think I did confuse both.
I have been using both the FQM and the MMP.
What I’m trying to do is have both the classic planets from standard SE5 along with a few of the FFP planet models. I didn't like a few of the gas giant models in the FFP so I'd like to edit those out. From what I’ve seen so far, it doesn’t seem like it would be hard to do this (but I’m not very knowledgeable about this sort of thing).
Second I want to get rid of the exaggerated atmosphere glow, (I’m aware that this might be a bit more difficult).
My only problem is that I’m not sure exactly which files to delete and where to move the other planet files for it to work. I just started playing around with these mods a week ago, so you could call me a newbie at this sort of thing.
If anyone could guide me though, or know of any other posts of people asking about the same thing please enlighten me.
Thanks =)

Re: SE5 Multimedia Pack
Actually, the atmosphere glow is easier... just open up the Pictures\Effects\FQM\PlanetGlow.bmp file in Paint and clear it to solid black - won't even make the mod incompatible for multiplayer purposes!
Editing out specific gas giant models/textures might be a bit trickier... though I suppose you could find the ones you don't like and replace them with "better" looking stock ones; that's probably the easiest option!

Re: SE5 Multimedia Pack
Awesome yeah that definately did the trick on both accounts. Thank you Ekolis.
I got the planets to work by just copy and pasting the old planets onto the new. Also the glow has dissapeared with just a small touch up in paint.
I couldn't stand some of those newer planet models, especally the bright hot pink/orange gas giants (just looked unrealistic). No offence to the artists.
