Ship sets and races

Soumis par Tilarium le Jeu, 2007-04-12 22:40 SE:V MODs

Ok, so there are a bunch of topics asking about adding ship sets and races to the game... BUT mine is slighly differant. I just want to add the shipsets and not a race to them, this way they don't randomly pop up in the game. Likewise I also want to do the same with race images. I wanted to make a race of robots (sorta like the Yor from GalCiv 2) but then I noticed there aren't any good pictures of robot races... on that note also, does anyone know where to find some good robot looking race images to add... or can the race pictures/flags that have been made for SE IV work in V, sense it's just the race picture. Ok, thats all, if anyone knows, please pass along the info.

Take a gander through the AI Main file for a particular race. Everything you need for question 1 is in there.

From the AI main... I could set Empire Race and avilable for player selection as false and it wouldn't get randomly selected then? Pretty sure that's what you were getting at but wanted to make sure.

Is Empire Race := TRUE
Is Available For Player Selection := TRUE
Is Neutral Race := FALSE

On a slightly differant topic, I found the XFileClasses_Stellar with the details for the Sol system (our system). From looking at it, it implies a way of getting our system into the game... I'd love to have it set so the terrans (AI controlled) start on Earth. Would anyone able to know anything about that?

You could create a system type called "Sol". In this system type, list all the planets/moons/asteroids found in our system. In the quandrant types, limit the frequency of "Sol" to 1. When you generate a map, you would have to set the starting locations so Sol has one. The problem is that the game will still give the system a random name. Also, I'm not sure you can set starting locations for a specific race.

The other option is to generate a random map with ergie's Map Creator, and then edit in the Sol system by hand. Still have the issue with start locations though.

I thought that ergie's map creator couldn't generate a map, and you to do it all by hand... a very daunting prospect because I like to play in galaxies with 150-250 system. Even still, like you said, there is the problem of the starting locations. Why MM didn't ship with a map editor like the one from SE IV I'll never know.
