A mines question..

Image de Myrath
Soumis par Myrath le Mer, 2007-04-11 14:52 Space Empires V FAQs

Say someone blocks a wormhole with 120 mines... and I'd like to pass through said wormhole...
Would one minesweeper (small transport) suffice? Do I just attack the spot?
Or do I need a fleet of sweepers?

How can I tell how many mines one sweeper can remove in a turn?

Tnx!

You would need a ship or ships with enough mine sweeping components to remove 120 mines. The higher your mine level the more mines they will remove. If you right click on a mine sweeping component it will inform you it’s sweeping ability.

Have a look at the description of the minesweeper component, it tells you how many mines it can remove (it varies depending on level).

hmm.. yeah. I hadn't plan for that minefield to double in size so quickly. This wouldn't be so bad... but getting more minesweepers to the front takes some time. I was hoping minesweepers could take more turns to clean out the mess.

I cannot see the mines in combat view; But they do show on normal view. Mines have a certain sensor level that is required for them to be revealed.

Yes. I had discovered this. But; Say I were to send through enough minesweepers for 100 points. (This is just a random number Javaslinger!).. Would I then lose all my minesweepers? Or would they just require more turns to clean out the area?

Yeah, any mines not immediately swept detonate. Sometimes that's survivable, usually not. (a hex can only hold 100 mines, BTW)

I've also managed to put more than 100 mines in a sector... don't remember how though... pobbably using the "remotely launch units" function.

Re: A mines question..

Well.. I'm pretty sure it would be 120.
I always remote launch myself... Is there any other way in simultanious games?

Well.. perhaps I should ram through with drones... But ... that would create like 20 combat reports. (That combat history files is an unpleasent side effect there!)

Heh. Well; I don't know yet how I'm going to fix this problem.
A more detailed description of my 'problem' can be found here: http://www.spaceempires5.com/en-US/node/3012 Sticking out tongue

btw, if you send fighters into minefield, mines damage/destroy them. One mine can destroy multiple fighters (if mine have high enough damage/fighter low enough HP).
But to kill whole fighter group, et least ONE mine will be used, even if its massive overkill.
So if you eg. build small fighter with life support, cockpit and one engine and launch only one and send it into minefield, he can waste one mine.
Can be usefull when you does not have/available minesweepers.

Yeah. It would be. But there's a problem with fighters being unable to warp.

I did read in the weapon specs that small anti proton beams can target mines though; I'd have to experiment with that from one of my carriers Sticking out tongue

Cheers,

I was wondering if your own mines activate when you go through them?

Like if i placed mines at a warp point would I be able to go through myself with no problem?

I don't build defence bases, they're a cowards weapon...
yeah, I don't park my ships on warp points either for the same reason.
sats too, and fighters.
I don't bother with armor or shields too, cause what's the point of defence? same goes with PD.

You'd be surprised how fast all dirty tactics quickly become used in a PBW match where you fight a opponent of equal stature.
I sure as hell block my warp points with anything that can do massive damage. I'm not a fan of 40 alien warships floating over my production facilities. Especially with a player at the helm who can quickly identify 'where it hurts'

Hey can mines detonate on drones? Because I have an idea. Build a minesweeper, but add a drone launcher and a drone with just engines. Said drone will fly in be destroyed, but then you know how many mines there are!!! Laughing out loud
