1.33 fighter bug? Planet bombardment |

I swear this used to work in a previous version...
I just attacked a planet with 120 small fighters (Balance Mod v1.05). Each of the fighters was armed with Small Cluster Bombs, for planetary bombardment.
The fighters closed in... and then flew around in circles above the planet, never firing a single shot. The weapons platforms on the planet picked them apart slowly until all were destroyed. None of the fighters ever shot at the planet.
The fighters definitely had ordnance. They were brand new, just launched with full supplies from a planet. Also, if they were lacking in ordnance or weapons then they would have retreated instead of engaging.
Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Re: 1.33 fighter bug? Planet bombardment
Your ships must be close enough in order to be able to attack the center of the planet. Thus in 1.33 fighter and planetary bombardment weapons don't work against planets. (except maybe sometimes against tiny planets)

Re: 1.33 fighter bug? Planet bombardment
Looks like it has nothing to do with range and attacking the planet center after all...
Some weapons like Planetary Napalm and DUC (and their smaller equivalents) just don't work against planets. Other weapons like Anti-Proton beams and Missiles work fine.
Re: 1.33 fighter bug? Planet bombardment
There is also the chance that you have signed a treaty with an empire prohibiting you from bombarding planets. It doesn't have to be the empire you are attacking that you have the treaty with. If you do tactical combat and your cursor changes when you are trying to target the planet with the fighters then this is the case. Otherwise it is quite likely the bug people are talking about.

Re: 1.33 fighter bug? Planet bombardment
1.33 Has a bug where certain types of weapons don't work for planet bombardment. There's a thread somewhere where this is discussed for ringed planets, but it happens for all types as far as I can tell.
