Playing No Warp Points |
Hey all. A new SEIV & SEV player here. I played SEV with no warp point to see how far I could take it. Apparently, it's a very boring game. It's really a matter of the first empire to break out that will win the game. By the time I got my research production to 2+ million, I had so many tech levels, it wasn't even funny. I did noticed an interesting behavior. At some point in the game, I'd get an enemy's ship. Usually, I'd run the ship around the solar system that it was stuck in before the enemy empire takes it down. I assume that there's a chance of a ship converting to an enemy's side but really? A conversion to an enemy that you don't know about?
Built three rings with more on the way. Can't wait til I get some dyson sphere's up, then, I'll really be obscene. Hehehe. Anyways, getting back to the startup, I really had to pump up the starting planets to 10 to be of really use. You can do it with five but you really have to get lucky with the planets. Too many planets with no air or not enough planets can really slow you down to the point where you'd just tear your hair out as it's really boring.
Which leads to my next question, I've yet to complete a full game against the ai. I've been looking at the boring aspects of researching Stellar Manipulation and my question is this: has anyone played a full game and gotten dyson spheres? And I do mean without resorting to the lame no warp point trick. (Nevermind that I'm playing this now, I do know it's rather lame.
)
Take care all.

Re: Playing No Warp Points
Wait...Dont dyson spheres block out all the light? Shouldnt you not be able to see anything?
cept the ship...

Re: Playing No Warp Points
AI don't know how to use Stellar manipulation as far as I've heard...
So far I've never even got past the Destroyer in ship sizes in my games, the AI is too stupid and I micromanage too much, so there's no point in continuing the game past turn 40, after that it's just plain "steamrolling the snails". So I don't know if I will even see a Dyson sphere. Pretty much all 4X games are like that. What is good in SE, is that you can start with full tech, maybe I'll make one full tech game when I'll get bored with exploring the first 1% of the tech tree...

I always play with technology cost on low and even then, I rarely get past frigates (IRM mod) with nuclear missiles and DUCs, the AIs are dead before I get past the first 5% or so of the tech tree. Of course part of my problem is that once I have 3x or so the AI's score, I just restart and try to form a more challenging game, there doesn't seem to be much point in playing it out. So nope, never seen a dyson sphere, unfortunately.
No warp point games might be an interesting alternative to the normal game, if the AI were capable of using stellar manipulations.. currently the AI places great limitations on what you can do with SE:V and still have any kind of challenge, hopefully the AI will improve and we'll get there at some point.

Re: Playing No Warp Points
If you play with no warp points, aren't you basically stuck in your home system? Or has this since been fixed?
As for Dyson Sphere's, I got them pretty easily without resorting to any tricks. See?
Suction feet are not to be trifled with!
