Few noob questions

Soumis par Orion66 le Sam, 2007-03-24 17:21 Space Empires V General

Hi,

I have few questions:

1. What is the role of population? The more population the faster I can build?????
2. What are the consequences of migration/mixed population planets ?
3. Example. I have armour level 5. Where (in game in some charts) can I see the diffrences between level 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 ? I remember It was possible to see all techs in one area in SE IV.
4. Can fighters attack planets?
5. What should I do to make relations with AI better? (gifts ?)
6. (a treaty) What does it mean if I share with AI all techs that are 2 levels old? English is not my native language so I can have some understanding problem. Could you explain this to me on some example?
7. Can I manually fire on enemy missiles? (like on enemy ships?)
8. (armor) What does it mean that it negates for example 6kT of damage? It means 6 damage points?
9. Main screen. Is it possible to be able to see what the planets are constructing and how much time it will take? (like in civilization 4)
10. I play on mod IRM. Is it normal in stock game that fighters can fly on main map?

I am not sure how it works quite with Stock and the ballence Mod but this is definatly the case with the IRM

Quote:
2. What are the consequences of migration/mixed population planets ?

apart from it increasing or decreasing you population the main diference is caused by what atmosphere the migrants breath. It is posible by manipulating things so that planets are only inhabited by people who can breathe its atmosphere to change domed colenies into open ones. This increases the capacity of the colony a great deal. for example a tiny world in the IRM has 2,000 KT of facility space the same one with a breathable atmosphere has 8,000kt the figures are diferent in stock and the balence mod bu the principle remains

appart from under the ? game cyclopedia no and I have not yet found a comparision chart as there was in SEIV

Quote:
4. Can fighters attack planets?

yes but not always effectivly owing tho the lesser damage of fighter weapons

Quote:

5. What should I do to make relations with AI better? (gifts ?)

I leave that to others

Quote:

if you have tl6 in an area you give the other participant in the treaty tl4 in that area which is two less than you have at the moment. Also every time you gain a tech level they gain one but remain two behind you.

Quote:
7. Can I manually fire on enemy missiles? (like on enemy ships?)

Not sure never tried

Quote:

corect

Quote:
9. Main screen. Is it possible to be able to see what the planets are constructing and how much time it will take? (like in civilization 4)

look under the spanner menu and set the lay out for construction that will show whats at the top of the construction queues of all your colonys and how long that will take to finish

Quote:

yes fighters fly on the system map as a fighter group but cant warp as well in the stock game

Hope that helps

1) That's about it. More population also gives you more militia if you get invaded and (I think) gives the planets more hit points in combat.

2) There's no real consequence to mixed population, unless one of the races can't breathe the atmosphere, then the colony will be considered domed, even if you have 1M population that can't breathe it, and 999M that can. But having two oxygen breathing races on the same planet, for example, has no real effect on anything else.

3) You can't, unfortunately. Sad Unless you have ship designs that have armor levels 1 2 3 or 4 on them. Email se5(at)malfador.com to bug Aaron about this, it's something we've been asking him for a long time.

4) Yep.

5) Not really sure on this one. The AI always ends up mad at me no matter what I do. Best thing is to just stay out of the AIs space, agree to their demands, and hope for the best.

6) If you're sharing techs that are 2 levels old, it basically means that if you have tech level 3 in something, you give your partner tech level 1. Or if you have tech level 10, you give your partner tech level 8. Basically, you share all of your technologies at 2 levels lower tech than what you have at present.

7) I don't think so, but I've never tried.

Cool That's exactly what it means. Smiling

9) No. Again, se5(at)malfador.com to bug Aaron about a feature we all want.

10) Fighters can do pretty much anything a ship can do on the main map except warp.

I just tested this one in the combat simulator, and from what I can tell, no you cannot target missiles manually.

Thanks for answers.
But those things you want Aaron to do - there are so many modders here. Can't they do this?

AND ONE MORE QUESTION:

1. Retrofiting. Having dozens of ships how can I easly retrofit them? Right now am doing this manually what drives me crazy.

The minister in the BM works well for this as you can set it up and forget about it, the IRM minister also works but gets confused at the moment as to what the latest version of a ship is but that should be fixed soon. Not sure about ministers in stock as I dont play it that much.

Re: Few noob questions

How does the minister decide what to retrofit to anyway? In my current IRM game I've got five different types of frigates (attack, defense, unit hunter, scout and gunship) and I'd like it to retrofit old attack ships to the newer attack ships (ditto for the other types). Is that how it works or is it likely to just retrofit them to any type at the moment?

Re: Few noob questions

at the moment the IRM minister will refit any ship as the newest of that hull type but its suposed to refit obselete designs to the curent version of that design and hull size. Ie scouts should be refited as scouts archers as archers etc. This I am sure will be fixed shortly. As FH's bug hunter is on the case

Hi,

I have more questions:

1. Tell me is it a bug. In IRM mod and Balance mod when I launch from planet for example 15 fighters, on the battlefield many of them have used ordinances and supplies. It must be a bug becouse every next fighter in group has less ordinances and supplies than the previus fighter in the same group. What do you think?
2. Colonizing. If I colonize a planet that is in AIs sector will AI trat this as an act of agression? An the other way. If AIs colonizer will colonize a planet in my system - what should I think of this?
3. How can I prevent AIs ships entering my sectors and colonizing planets?

Re: Few noob questions

Soumis par AgentZero le Dim, 2007-03-25 14:49

1) From the sounds of it, that's a bug alright. I thought it had been squished, but I guess not.

2) Yes, the AI does get a bit angry with you for colonizing in their systems, unless you have a treaty that allows it. If they colonize in your system, most of the time I just ignore it, unless I'm ready for a war anyway, then that planet becomes target number one.

3) As for the AI colonizing your systems, you just have to try to get it to accept a treaty that prevents it from doing so. Either that, or capture/destroy their colony ships, though the AI gets a bit annoyed at that.

Ok I have new questions.
1. Diplomacy. What does diffrent message tone do? Is there a REAL diffrence or this is useless?

2. Ordnaces means ammunition?

What triggers this action?

I have 1.33 (Upgraded from 1.25) playing BM (1.05 after copy/paste settings.txt from 1.04).

I have fighters that move to a planet that has no defense on the planet and I cant get the fighters to attack the population/facilities during the tactical battles.

In this game fighters are not made for athmospheric re-entry: You have to load them on transports and drop as troops. (Battlestar Galactica rules! Smiling )

BTW that would be a great addition to the game if fighters could "capture planets" in space combat!

dighton, you sure your fighters have the correct weapon to be able to attack the planet??
check on the stats of weapons if it can target planet....not sure if there are extra targets abilitys for population and facilitys.

Assuming they're all on the same sector and there's a space yard in that sector:

1) Hit Ctrl+E

2) Select some ships

3) Select the design you want all selected ships to be retrofitted to

add to above

4 wait for them all to be repaired which will take several turns with that number and more if the shipyard is low tech and the refit is extensive

Re: Few noob questions

Yes, but this is manual retrofiting. I have to click every single planet that have ships on orbit.
What I meant was to make retrofit of ALL mine ships - with one click.
Is it possible?

Re: Few noob questions

you can refit multiple ships at the same time provided they are A in the same place B to be refited to the same design but you would have to cycle through your shipyard sites to do all of them.

The only automatic way is to use your refit minister which will do the job at about the same speed as ships get recalled to a world with a space port.

How do I make retrofit minister working?

Re: Few noob questions

Soumis par evilginger le Mar, 2007-03-27 15:31

look on the empires menu at the top of the system screens (has a crown Icon) if you click on that you will see a screen with a number of features but down the left hand side are a set of empire options look down that till you find ministers. Its somewhere in the middle select that and you will get a list of minister functions. Select the top two in that list (which you have to, to give the minister the control of you ships when it’s needed) and then further down select the refit (all) minister. Then quit back to the main screens and you minister will now be working.

Note Sentried ships will not be refitted as the orders the refit minister gives to move ships to a planet with a space yard to refit don’t cancel the sentry order.

The IRM refit minister works but will convert all your frigates to the latest version regardless of type but 0.9d will fix that and may still have some other similar quirks in 0.8x would do the same with colony ships as well annoying when you had all three techs and where trying to back fill uncolenised but now available worlds

Hope that helps

One more questin.
I play IRM mod. 1 research compound makes 250 points. On planet I have 10 compounds so I should have 2500 points. But I have more - 2900 points. Sitiuation is familiar on other planets.
How come?

There are bonuses and penaltys to reserch from society government and racial abillity choices. I think these would likly account for the +400 points if not if your people are happy you get a bonus to all sorts of production for keeping them that way.

Go read the "Abilities" section of a planet. It'll tell you how much boost you're getting from happiness and population amount, as well as society/government/racial boosts.
