Ground Cannons

The Ground Cannons are still treated the same in the 1.33 patch as in the 1.25. It takes 10k per level as appose to the 2k for most other same type of weapon. Is there a reason for this disparity? As it stands level 3 ground cannon does 9 points of damage compared to level 15 at ~30 for other small weapon types.

Well, ground cannons are the second most powerful troop weapon at max tech, next to Small DUCs (which do nearly double GCs damage!) but that doesn't really explain the research disparity, since with a couple weapons it's only a 1-2 point damage difference.

Remember to look at the On Ground damage values (the second set, for most weapons) when you're comparing damage. For example, Small Anti-Matter Torpeoes do 703 damage in space (again, at max tech), but only do 202 on the ground which is 1 point less than a Ground Cannon. Then when you factor in the fact that AMTs are 10kT vs 3kT for GCs and you start to see why they're such good troop weapons.

Still, I think what it really comes down to is just one more reason you should be using the Balance Mod instead of stock. Eye-wink

They should be good troop weapons. I mean they are called GROUND cannons right?
question about troops though...What weapons can target ground based fighters? and similarly what weapons can weapon platforms use to fire on troops?

IIRC most if not all standard ground weapons can fire on fighters. In stock, I don't believe there are any WP weapons that can fire during ground combat.

As I recall it, the weapons platforms could use the PD weapons for ground combat. I say this on third party info, however. Haven't been able to test it out yet.

If memory serves, this was a modification made in the Balance Mod. Memory, however, does not always serve.

Suction feet are not to be trifled with!

I have been shot at by weapons platforms in a BM game but I was too buisy shooting back to check what they where firing at me I thought that they were some sort of cannon judging by the animation

Weapon Platforms can use PD vs troops/fighters in ground combat in the Balance Mod.

I am assuming it is thusly not that way in stock or IRM. Were the changes extensive or minor? If minor, I'd like to add it in.

I like that C&C reference someone said about it, that WPs turn into Obelisks of Light with that activated. Afterall...it makes perfect sense really. The PD weapons would make powerful ground guns, but don't seem right on tanks. Protect the planet and your neighborhood! Laughing out loud
