Economy woes -- what am I doing wrong? |
For the past 10 turns in my current game, I've had a lack of resources stopping production on half my planets. I used the Shift-O empire options menu to check out my resources, and sure enough I was empty on organics. My stores were similarly full in every area but organics.
In two turns I had fixed the problem, by scrapping some ships, mothballing others, and building a few new compounds. According to the Empire Options menu, I'm now considerably positive for net income. Yet, for eight or so more turns I've still had zero increase in organics and half my planets continue to not produce.
Any ideas? I'm using BM 1.04.
And thanks to everyone who's helped with my other newbie questions!

Do you have space ports? Are any of your planets blockaded (read: have any non-friendly unit/ship on top of them)? Are you researching resource techs?

Playing Touhou games (Go here if interested . No, nobody else is that good/insane as that replay). No rush for SE V bug fixing.

Re: Economy woes -- what am I doing wrong?
I believe it's due to the fact that only the first item in the queue is being counted towards the estimated construction usage under the empire summary screen - when in fact you are actually using more...

I've noticed a few times when I've played that I have to enter the construction screen, add/subtract items and then come back to get the "true" net resource gain/loss.
Re: Economy woes -- what am I doing wrong?
How about storage? Do you have enough resource storage?

OK.....think of it like this....You're at the bar on Thursday night,....you got $10 left(resource storage) of last weeks pay. You have a couple brews, leave a tip. Now your broke(resource storage = 0) You say to the bartender " Hey I'm broke, but I get paid tomorrow morning(net resources) Can I get a few more beers? The Bartender laughs & says sorry come back tomorrow when your got some money.(new balance in resource storage) You can only spend as much minerals as you have in storage period!
Re: Economy woes -- what am I doing wrong?
If you have Retrofit Minister turned on, resources will be used if upgrades are possible. Hope this may help explain some of your resource mystery.
Re: Economy woes -- what am I doing wrong?
Resource usage during construction is not spread out evenly across the turns. An item that costs 15000/5000/10000 in a queue that has 5000 unit contruction capability will use minerals for all three turns, rads for 2 turns and organics for the first turn.
Re: Economy woes -- what am I doing wrong?
I have a similar problem that I've been puzzling over.
I have a large stockpile of minerals with a positive income. Over half of my minerals come from trade, and my expenses are slightly more than my trade income.
I should be gaining minerals each turn, enough to have filled my stockpiles in a turn. Instead, I'm losing resources every turn.
I can't figure out why, since I'm making much more than I'm spending.
Re: Economy woes -- what am I doing wrong?
Hi guys remember when you build somthing you have to pay to maintain it to. Keep an eye on how much your units cost to keep in the field as well? its the hidden pinch that catches you out

Re: Economy woes -- what am I doing wrong?
Not good, check that you have population on all your planets as its easy to create colonys with zero population not your imediate problem but wont help as they do report as having no resorces and will never build stuff.
other thing to do is to put all production on hole for a couple of terns to allow your stores to rebuild and then take things off hold slowly. Reserching organics extraction whilst this hapens is also a good idea as upgrading your existing organics production facilitys will help. Scraping stuff is a good idea but its only a short turn fix.
