1.25 Issues that make me not want to play.

Soumis par dcarde007 le Ven, 2007-03-09 11:48 Space Empires V General

Cargo Transports given repeat orders to pick up population then move to destination drop population: It picks up the population moves to destination and clear orders. The drop population command does not work.

Fighters supply and ordinance bug: even with plenty of supplies and ordinance half the fighters have reduced ordinance and supplies.

Enemy colonies 'disappear' when your sensors no longer are in range of the planet: This annoys me to no end.. I need to know where their colonies are after I spot them so I can see the borders, plan invasions, place defenses, and colonize. My work around for this is to create early tech cloakable 20kt satellites, probes, that i carry with my scouts and drop them around the galaxy.
Please add a show colonies from memory command to the settings file.

Tactical combat background needs an option to be removed.

Tactical combat zoom needs to the option to hold a key and the zoom speed changes. Easy fix, just like sliders, hold shift and the zoom speed moves 10x faster.

Game doesn't process turns when alt+tabbed: Sitting here for 5+ minutes waiting for the game to process turns is very annoying. I hate wasting time and would rather be multitasking. This issue really needs to be taken care of. If need be, program it to only use the idle portion of the processor. It is possible.

As of the next patch the game will run in the background from what I have seen on the change logs and as for Alt Tab I believe several problems with it are also going to be fixed. I don’t use Alt tab very much because it seems to crash games including SEV when used in my experience and the top RHS minimise button works well enough for me with SEV.

Zoom also works on the wheel of the moude if you have that sort of mouse

I'll be very happy if it will run in the background.

It's faster zoom in and out by holding the + or - button on the keypad. However it's still painfully slow and annoying if you want to zoom out and see the entire map or even to see your units and their units.

only thing that annoys me is being fixed, that AI wont move their populations off of domed planets when they have a breathable race there. If its not fixed they have the classes so it can be modded in.

It exists already in Settings.txt
Set "Can See Planet At Any Distance" to true.
This applies to the AI aswell.

Of course you could change the visibility settings for the game itself so that you can see the whole system any of your fleet is in.

Can't say I've used the drop population command, but have you noticed how quickly population migrates on its own? This is not SEIV, where population grew slowly and needed to be moved around. Manually moving population is a thing of the past, in my opinion.

Triple check your math on the carrier. Make sure there is enough supply and ordinance for every fighter. Once I started doing this, my fighter supply problems went away. Fighters are EXTREMELY powerful, so this level of micromanagement during construction is a good balancer.

Having line of sight only for enemy colonies is a feature, and one that I like myself. But if it annoys you, check off the option when starting the game to not require line of sight sensors. That should do what you want.

How do you set it to be like SE IV, i.e. where a system is marked based on your past knowledge that enemy colonies were there, even if you can't see them currently?

use the system notes page to record the locations when you can see them and mark the system to avoid t o stop ships wandering in under minister control, not that that works that reliably at the moment

When I find enemy colonies I usually tag them as a minefield (ctrl + space if I recall correctly). It's an easy way to keep track of them, any interesting details regarding defense forces or the type of colony can be written into the system notes page.

But that's not what I'm asking. Is there a way for the mini map to keep a system color coded, as was done in the earlier and simpler SE IV, when you are not directly in that system?

SE IV didn't do that, either, unless you turned on an option during setup. Otherwise, if you didn't have a presence or a partner in the system, it only showed stars and planets, etc., not other races' colonies. The only thing that stayed color-coded was the territory claimed on the Borders map (and a couple other similar maps).

"Good morning, Pooh Bear," said Eeyore gloomily. "If it /is/ a good morning," he said. "Which I doubt," said he.

Actually, that's what I'm referring to. I play SE IV where I cannot see the actual colonized planets without being in the system. However, I still know where they have a presence and/or a claim based on the Quadrant and/or Borders map. Is it possible to do this in SE V?

I'm hopping that we will get that functionality soon, because the game is crippled without this feature IMHO. Perhaps the people that are involved in the development process can provide an answer?

Seconded. Come on, these are advanced beings! Are you telling me that they are sitting around saying, "If ONLY we had a way to have our computerized maps know where the enemies were located, as we are incapable of remembering after leaving the sector. Why, if we just had some crayons we could color code the map ourselves!"

Realistically, you wouldnt know if the colony is there or not, even if you found it, without something marking them, or spying on the colony. The planets would move, so you would lose the coordinates. Then, without spies, you wouldnt know if it was whiped out or evacuated, or has grown in size and built a huge war fleet.

have you played against the stock AI? what you posted wouldnt be much of a stretch if you ask me Smiling
the crayons part got me to serously laughing out loud though

still i cant but agree. id like to se it taken a step further with the ability to actualy claim systems. i want the AI to KNOW that i OWN my home system and any ships they send will result in a declaration of war. i dont care if its a freighter full of gold that lost its engins in an Ion storm. its MY system and they enter it at their own risk. now beliving that turn about is fair play id expect the same from them. they claim a system it should be color coded on my map.

Ardius i dont think any one here wants to be able too actualy see individual planets and such, just a visual que that reminds you that the heart of the phong empire is 3 systems down and too the left. since most people dont keep a fleet of scout ships on constiant patroll through the entire quadrant the whole game to remind them. its easy enough to create a cloaked sat (and whats with not being able to self destruct sats, i know they dont have engines but something should be riged up so the self destruct will work for them) and station it in a system for the fine details. but it sure would be nice to take a quick glance at the quadrant map and get a feel for the layout of the empires in a blink.

i really REALLY want the enemy to stay the hell out of my home system atleast unless we are at war. im a nut case about it. to the point now where i commit genocide against anyone who sends a ship into my home system, even if they are 'allies' i break the alliance and declare war the same turn.

I agree with the ghosted colony idea, but just so you know, there aren't developers - just developer. One man, Aaron Hall. To my knowledge the only help he has is with the artwork. He does all of the programming.

That is true, population do migrate quickly to planets that have good environments. However, I love population transports, IE forced migration. The 5% birthrate on my home world equates out to 200million per turn. While my colonies get maybe 5-20 million per turn. Transports can effectively double your population growth rate. I guess this isn't really a show stopper, however it's annoying that the option currently isn't working properly.

I tried this, however this works too good. It allows me to see the planets automatically as soon as I enter the sector.
A planet is in a fixed orbit. It moves, however very predicatably, in a circle or eliptical around the star. The current minimap option to show enemy empires is severely lacking, the colony issue would be lessened if the enemies colony that you found before losing line of sight would color the map and the map would stay colored until u viewed the planet again and found that it was destroyed or captured by another empire.

As i recall on the system map thingie that you pull up, if you press a button it maximizes the screen. There is a button in the top corner that shows Systems with ally colonies as blue. However, once 1.25 came in, it doesnt work. It used to though...

the mini map was changed an now only shows enamy or ally presence if you have a sensor system in the system which can see them. It howevwe still works but in this overly limited way
